Not to mention that Anakin himself, the Chosen One, spent 22 years in thrall to Palpatine as his apprentice before seeing that he still had chance to right his own wrongs.

Luke turning into Victor Meldrew and going into hiding on Ach-to was not one of the problems of the Sequels... we all know what said problems really were :p
