8th Ed. "Battlescrolls" release all through December.

One Fantasy item a week...GW is too good to us....

If "scrolls of binding" is what I fear it is we/Lizardmen is going to loose our/their "thing".
Monsters!
With no point category!
FOR EVERYONE!

If all races is going to get acces to riderless carnosaurs before we had it for ourselves I just wouldnt know what to do with myself.....

Have you guys noticed that tommorow is the "crypt scavenger" box set? ..that set containes a necromancer.

Are you suggesting that scroll of binding allows monsters to be used without a rider? I don't see why this would've been special to lizardmen :p

The Storm of Magic expansion has a ton of "Scrolls of Binding" in it. Each one is a rules page that allows a different monster to be fielded by basically anyone who wishes. The carnosaur (riderless) is one of those monsters.

It is likely that this is the same thing, but whether it will have all the SoM monsters in it or not is not clear to me.

Exactly^.
I pray that they at least restrict this somewhat, giving a list for each army.
Else we will see chimerae all over the place backed by phoenixes and hydras.

Couldn't this be only for SoM then? I'd love to try out s riderless carno in regular games :p

That wouldnt make much sense as SoM pretty much covers all monsters already, and even has some new ones that dont even have a model yet.
......
......
.....wait a minute....what if the Dread Saurian model wasnt put into production just for SoM ?

So how about this theory:

The scroll is for regular WHF, but it's in preparation of 9th edition? What I mean is that everybody and their mother have cried out about the lazor cannons killing monsters with ease. So say they nerf the cannons a bit, but let everybody have acces to (more) monsters? Does it make sense? <.<

The way I see it cannons are used to counter the use of monsters, but with nerfed cannons we'd probably see more monsters. By giving everybody access to more monsters it would sort of even out? ._.

Anyway here's hoping for a carnosaur in Rare :P

Hopefully "Scrolls of Binding" will have restrictions tied to the army your using (or be for SoM).

Does not make sense if you can chose and pick monsters from other armies in regular fantasy. That would remove one of the layers you have to consider when choosing what army you want (monsters).

Though, will be interesting to see what it really is in the end.

Scroll of binding could be foe each armies own monsters and then we have the monsters from the new formation

The Monstrous Arcanum book from Warhammer Forge already allows anyone to use any monster they want (granted you have to get the $75 book to know this (whic I have done)). Not only does it allow for monsters from the Arcanum to be added to your army (think SoM without the magic changes. Just add the points allowance for scroll(s) of binding), it also allows all SoM monsters as well. Granted, this is not the same thing as allowing a riderless Carnosaur in Rare, as the Carnosaur would have it's own "Monster" category and points, but it is very close.

The only scroll of binding I want is (Lizardmen only) Coatl

*sigh* they won't stop asking for money, its worse than that time the nurglngs went to Disneyland.......

Honestly half of these scrolls are old things they rehashed, the attachments and formations are just exscuse s to squeeze more pounds from us :(

*grabs book*
*goes through the pages for the introduction text*
*actually reads it this time*
* ????? *

is this treated as standard rules?! I always thought it was for SoM games only...

Can I seriously bring a Dread Saurian to a tournament and show my opponent this text piece for rule-lawyering and expect it to be taken for good wears?..............I doubt it....rest of the book mentions this as if it was an SoM game, and its only in the foreword that it actually says otherwise....correct me if you know better! please! :D

dont know about that...pair the Restless dead with the "Crypt Scavengers" and you have half an undead army with a necromancer added......if it counted against core this would be a sweet deal...now its just decent.

either that or allow us the frostheart phoenix...ill convert the twitty myself.

Monstrous Arcanum is not SoM, nor is it "official" rules. It lives in the wonderful grey area of being "officially unofficial" - that is, GW endorses the forge world rules in an abstract sense, but it's not tournament legal. It's best to think of it like another SoM-style optional expansion.

Presumably, whatever these "scrolls of binding" are will be tournament legal, however.

I'm willing to bet a majority of TOs will disallow Battlescrolls and Formations. Just my opinion, though two here locally have already stated as much.

if these scrolls and formations tells of 9th I am curious to see how the community responds when it become "how it is".

Some TOs allow scrolls of binding already and some don't. I can't see these be any different.

All of these releases have been rehashes of existing material, either from White Dwarf or some already published supplement. This leads me to believe that the scrolls release will just be the Storm of Magic rules rehashed, and nothing will really change on the tournament scene.

I actually hope that this is not the case.
I would love to have further tools to design my army, I just hope they dont go bonkers and overdoes it.
