9th Age 9th Age (beta) out now - check link in first post

It wasn't meant as an insult at all. I'm merely perplexed that a single model in a beta made you say the things you said. I agree the Slann is dumb and I said so, but it doesn't bring down the entire book for me. They got most things right and once they gather the new teams for each book I'm sure the last things can be fixed.

Anyway if I came off as rude I apologize :/ I also just got news that my best friends have already sold his paints and is selling his models so maybe I was a little harsh because I'm rather annoyed/saddened.

Anyway I checked the WoC book and it appear that on the whole the LM army got a buff, without increasing our overall power. To put in another way we can now more safely use more models. The same thing appear to be true for WoC although they got hit with the nerf bat in some cases. Especially the chimera got hit exceptionally hard. Somewhat unreasonable IMO. Meanwhile skullcrushers have the same price and are better than ever with S6 on the riders on the charge (MoK) so I'm not seeing how those guys got fixed haha.

The biggest offenders from VC also got somewhat of a nerf. Bloodlines are re-introduced which mean that you can still get a nasty lord, but not everything in one. If you want that super killy lord you can't also have a mage, but overall their book looks interesting. Blood knights at 2W but 50pts will definately make them more worth it, compared to previously. Again I haven't seen a power increase, but more instead more units being viable.
 
I haven't looked at WoC yet. Are skullcrushers still a 1+ AS?

Meanwhile, Mournfang got knocked down so that they lost the parry and can have a 3+ AS at best. Plus, the only thing in the army that causes fear anymore is the gorger.

I'm still excited about the changes, but there are definitely some more things that need to be adjusted for the 9th age guys to achieve their goal.

That is not true. They now have Immune to psychology without the Slann, but for some wierd reason they lost stubborn when the Slann is in the unit.
That needs to change just like the Slann needs some changes.

But I see potential, at least this is a lot better than AOS (IMO).
 
No they still have stubborn it's just in the bodyguard rule in the BRB:

Bodyguard (X)
This unit is Stubborn as long as it has a non-champion character is joined to it. Sometimes this will only work with certain characters, when this is the case, the relevant characters will be stated in brackets. Units with the Unstable Special Rule and Body Guard (and relevant characters joined to it) that loses combat halves the number of wounds caused by Unstable.

I fully admit that things could still very well change. These are merely my initial feelings based on what little I have seen. There are definitely some great things mixed in there. For me, 9th age has to be not only better, but significantly better in order for me to abandon 8th. If the difference between them is not that great I'd rather stick with the "official" product... but that's just me.

Temple guard are still stubborn when joined by a Slann. Stubborn is granted by their "Bodyguard (Anurid High Priest)" special rule.

Hmm.. that depends.. they have plate armour, shield and are mounted, but how are monstrous beasts counted? I don't see anything about barding.
 
So what about special characters? Are they left out?
 
Read the paragraph at the end. They're not done adding items and units.

Also Skinks are WS3.

I hope so, at least for me they gave something extra to the game, if nothing else then just fun.

The Engine of the gods says that it has the "Shem's burning gaze" spell from the path of light, but there is no such spell in the path of light, it is named "Burning gaze".
It is most likely the spell, but technically the Engine has a spell that does not exist.

Yup. Plus, I have this great Tetto model that I made, so it would be disappointing if I couldn't use him again.

I will wait until the new books come out, and intend to play test the rules with what they currently have. I'll withhold judgment until then :)
 
I haven't read the book but looking at pinktaco short version (thx for that :p), I feel a bit as nightbringer with the difference that I will definatly try 9th. The frog was also why i choose LM as my army and this does not do the fluff any justice. I always felt the slan was very good, but honestly very expensive! Other mages are much cheaper. Ok our frog has a sick ward safe and is pretty unkillable with a big unit of TG and I guess that is the reason why it was so expensive. Because in all other aspects it was just a lvl 4 caster. The extra's for becoming what the fluff says the frog is, a master caster were to be bought with points, making our caster even more expensive. So all in all this deeply saddens me. It was the only model I didn't want them to touch to much and this downright sucks. Did he now become less expensive????

It seems like the Slamander and Razordon does not have any handlers (unless I have overlooked something)
 
Becoming less expensive wouldn't be ideal. We need to be able to take more disciplines. That's it. Alternatively if they don't like that then bring back generations like our 6th edition book. They could all be lvl4 with the cheapest being 250pts with no disicplines (50pts for 4+ ward and other things is reasonable?) and then add something for each level. That fits the fluff and still allow for some flexibility.

Easiest would be to allow for more disciplines haha.

They didn't So no 5+ ward and the model just straight up lose a wound upon miscast. Also they lost a bit of effectiveness in CC (less S3 attacks haha).
They're also limited to unit size 1-3 so another nerf for razordons.

Salamanders haven't been hit that hard, but razordons appear even worse now. They didn't need a price reduction, but to be viable in smaller units. Now they remain almost the same, but can't be effective at bigger units. Or maybe you're using the artillery dice to shoot? in which case their shots have been doubled along with the miscast risk. Hm.....
 
that is my point pinktaco. I don't need the frog to be cheaper, but if it gets nerfed that hard, then for god sakes at least decrease the points, even if I don't want it that way, I want a buffed frog to this one!
 
Well my point is that it shouldn't ever come to a point reduction. It's absolutely dumb. THAT is flavorless if I've ever seen it "hi you have this super awesome mage, he's level 4 at 300pts, kkthxbb"

I want my slann to be expensive, but flexible. I don't even want them to consider making him cheap as a result xD

There are a couple of references to old rules or old names that no longer exist. One of the path of Beasts spells makes reference to Heroic Killing blow which doesn't even exist anymore.
 
HKB is killing blow with (X) multiple wounds. Why they haven't specified that is odd.
