I'm out if the Chaos Dwarfs are out. Nothing has been confirmed yet (although the current Forge World move is definitely a bad omen). I await further information to assess the situation and make my decision. I'd be lying though if I said I was optimistic about the game, but I'd happy to have my trepidations proven unwarranted.

Part of the problem is you won't know for sure even when they release the initial armies.

But I too have a bad feeling...

I don't recall my lore correctly, at what point in the timeline do Chaos Dwarves pop up? Before or after this period of the 3 emperors?

Most definitely agreed, as I said in the Dwarf thread, the way they are going, GW are going to kill all interest in the game before it even starts.

First the decision to make all the models via Forge World has put off a lot of gamers (leaving only the die-hard fantasy fans and the rich gamers left) and now they’ve alienated another portion of that remaining playerbase by axing the Chaos Dwarfs, a beloved ‘cult’ army that was a highly-respected part of Warhammer Fantasy. Certainly I’m simply going to keep playing 7th and 8th Editions unless GW does something particularly fantastic with TOW, and that’s a long shot.

I wonder what else GW can do to mutilate TOW before it is even born?

Chaos Dwarfs date from very early on in Warhammer’s history, when some of the early Dwarf clans that migrated north during the rise of the Dwarf empire fell foul of the Chaos God Hashut and were mutated and warped beyond recognition. The normal Dwarfs shunned them and they’ve been causing trouble ever since.

This I know, just not how it relates timeline wise to the period they're planning to set TOW in (time of the three emperors)...
 
Have they said anything about why Chaos Dwarfs are being removed from being offered?
 
I almost winner if the plan is to do all be models for every army for TOW, so they wanted to get the old models off the site. And yes I realize we are still far from it's release, but maybe they were just selling the end of the last production run.

Personally I'd lose all interest in the game if I couldn't utilize my pre-existing models. I want new models, but I want them in addition to what I already have.
 
Oh, I agree, I just meant having all new sculpts for people picking up the square base system (I'm still assuming that is what this week be), or adding to their already owned armies. Still allowing existing models to be compatible.

A good question... and one that required a bit of researching on my part. In short, the birth of the Chaos Dwarfs pre-dates the Time of Three Emperors by thousands of years.

From the Dwarfs 8th edition army book:

The number on the right relates to the Imperial Calendar (ignore date on the left as that is based on the Dwarf calendar). The Chaos Dwarfs are essentially "born" when they first start worshipping Hashut. So based on this text we know for certain that the Chaos Dwarfs exist in the year -3900.

The 8th edition Empire book provides us with the timeframe for the Time of Three Emperors:

Which starts in 1547

And ends in 2303 (when Magnus the Pious unites the Empire)

So the Chaos Dwarfs exist by the year -3900 and the Time of Three Emperors doesn't start until 1547. So the Chaos Dwarfs have been around for 5447 years when Time of Three Emperors begins!

Hopefully, but we can never know for sure with GW. We have so little information about TOW. We don't even know what scale it will be.
