GW News: LAS VEGAS OPEN 2025

First look at the new rules.

Nothing too exciting, though I like the stormkeeps. Being able to take CoS units and buff them with command abilities as if they were SCE seems like a neat gimmick.

The new kits are up in the NZ webstore, and they are definitively for a narrative play:

  1. 3 Chaos Chariots: Great.
  2. 1 Black Dragon and 20 basic Dark Elves infantry: Great.
  3. 1 Akhelian King and 2 Allopexes: What? I guess this is good, but I don't really know Idoneth that well.
  4. 1 Lord Veritant, 10 Judicators (thunder crossbows/bows), 3 Castigators (magic arrows), 8x Gryph-Hounds, which make for the whole set on itself: I don't see a lot of synergy but this is great for ranged support.
At the cost of a Start Collecting kits, this are pretty neat kits. Again, not sure about how good the Idoneth kit is but I'm down for plenty of them.

For the SCE; gryph hounds give ranged SCE units a free round of shooting if something teleports/deepstrikes nearby, which is the synergy in this particular set. It's a decent combo.

This is why I hate living in a country without a GW Store:

A free model and a free pot are always welcome.

But that's not all:

Zoat in Blood Bowl.

CONSPIRACY TIME!

It surprises me it's taken them this long to do a "buy X get one free" kinda deal, especially for paint. It's one of the most basic tricks to sell more stuff. Ah well maybe GW is finally realizing that the occasional discount is good for sales :p

They’ve always given out a free taster model for as long as I’ve been a customer. I suspect this is just them diversifying what it is
I've only ever seen them do that to try and draw in new customers though. Usually something along the lines of "hey kid, you wanne try out painting? You get to keep the model". I've never seen them just give models to whomever just asked for them.

That's been my experience as well.

Would it be safe to assume no Christmas boxes this year? I had heard previous years they were announced earlier and with another lockdown in sight it doesn’t seem very likely I think.

They do always tend to sell a nearly all of em, so I'd assume they'd not want to miss out on that

Also, they were quite late last year as well. I though they only announced them at like the start of december.

Ok, I'm seeing that we're getting one for Ogors (with a smaller Gargant) and one for Gitz (with Trolls and Squigs), and most people are assuming Bonereapers and Stormcast for the other two.

The 40k ones so far are Astra Militarum and Tau.

Every single year there is a Tau Battleforce.

Every single time I miss them out because I almost ran out of money by this time of year, especially this one.

Just kill me already.

At least the Primaris Battleforces boxes look kinda crappy, thanks to GW increasing the Combat Patrols prices from the Start Collecting! kits by almost a third.

I'd be surprised if they release more than four AoS Battleforces.

EDIT: CONFIRMATION. We've got no Sigmarines nor Fantasy Necrons, but KO (again) and Tzeentch (again) AND Gitz (again).

Expect the KO one sold out almost instantly: anything with a discounted big ship is going to sell itself.

Having the KO and Tzeentch BFs also seem like the expansions for Aether War.

Funny that this year there were two Destruction armies (and one of them already having a kit just last year).

Isn't the gitz the same one as last year or two years ago?

Tzeentch one is also very similar to it's previous battleforce, and I got plenty of tzaangor and cultists in that one. Would've much prefered a daemon focussed one.

Also is the KO one just the aetherwar box with 2 extra ships? I mean, it's nice in combination with the aetherwar box I guess, but it also feels lazy.

I like the ogor one though, it actually seems a decently coherent force. Though why does it contain a gargant? Wouldn't a second ironblaster have been better? Both thematicly and in terms of synergies? Or one of the BCR ogor units?

Do you think it's true what I've heard people say about battleforce boxes being determined by which factions are selling the best?

Because at least for age of Sigmar this definitely seems to be the case. KO and Tzeentch are both at the top of the meta and I'm sure have been selling like hotcakes as a result. Gloomspite gitz got two additional upgrades this year in the form of new sub-factions or battalions. Not sure about the ogre one though, I don't know how popular they are. But I can't help but notice that it has a gargant, maybe they're trying to encourage people to add the big guys to their existing destruction armies?
