Yearly release of changes in the rules and pointvalues of units to even out the playing field a bit more. Mostly because not all armies get a new Battletome every year or due to the release of New(powerfull) armies.

I agree, the elves getting to keep a bunch of heroes is annoying. But that said, I do have fond memories of repainting Eltharion the Blind and giving him a Black Guard of Naggaroth halberd to make him my Black Guard commander.
