8th Ed. To Kill a Daemon Prince

what about a unit of cowboys.

we are talking 2400 points so 600 worth of heros.

how about 4 cowboys in the one unit each with either a 1+ save with reroll or decent ward. all with great weapons of course.

hitting on 4s and wounding on 3s or 2s?

not sure the princes T.

so each cowboy has 4A so thats 12 in total with the average chance of getting 2 PF extras... 14 which means 7 hit and 5 or 6 wound he is saving on 5+ and 5++ so he saves 50% of them?

if you want dont run them as a single unit... but just place them 1 inch beside each other.if he charges a chimera at them it can only impact one cowboy and the others go hurting... one cowboy should be able to eventually kill a chimera wouldnt it? you could also surround these guys with skink skirmishers so they cant be charged... with small gaps to allow you to charge out from between them.

The problem is, as Red said, he can just challenge. And even if he doesn't you'll be somewhat hard pressed just to engage him. The Prince flies and has a high leadership so no march blocking. If you can tarpit him something like 2-3 scar vets and a 6 diced Savage Beast would do it... but that's a lot to try and line up while the rest of his army is bearing down on you.

Also note almost all the Prince you'll see out there are mark of Nurgle, so you'll be hitting on 5s at least, and 6s if he gets the Miasma spell off.

You don't need 4 cowboys. You just need one.

Old Blood, Cold One, Great Weapon, Armor of Destiny, Dawnstone, The Other Tricksters Shard.

He'll beat the Daemon Prince in combat all by himself. Problem is actually getting IN combat with the Daemon Prince.

Which is why you run 2.
Give the 2nd one, Cold One, Great Weapon, Tricksters Helm, Talisman of Preservation.

Either Oldblood can go toe to toe with anything that chaos brings. You can take out the chariots/chimeras if the prince is hiding.

Can't you just charge the prince with skinks to hold him there and then get in with the old blood?

The oldblood might be tied up somewhere else. That why I'd go with 2 old bloods.
