The Random Thread of Random Randomness

Here is the order of teams which I'd most like to see win (nothing to do with who I think will win)...
  1. Messi (Argentina)
  2. Brazil
  3. Netherlands
  4. Portugal
  5. Croatia
  6. France
  7. Morocco
  8. England (before @Lord Agragax of Lunaxoatl , they would have been third on this list)

Anyone else... who would you like to see win? And who would you hate to see win? What's your order?

I'm surprised you'd root for a poor team like Croatia above France... and I notice you obviously didn't like seeing Morocco beat Spain. Underdog wins are obviously not your thing, which I suppose is just another example of our eternal opposite status given I enjoy seeing underdog wins make history.

For me it's as follows:
  1. England obviously
  2. France
  3. Netherlands
  4. Morocco
  5. Portugal
  6. Brazil
  7. Argentina
  8. Croatia

You don't have a favourite player. You believe that all the players are money hungry cheats with no sportsmanship. Why do you even watch or care about the game then?

To be honest I don't care about it all that much. I'm fed up with seeing my local team lose to primadonnas like the Manchester teams. I was never much good at it at school. The only reason I follow the World Cup is out of support for my country, because if you don't support your home country in its sporting events, you are a traitor to the realm. I want to see England (and Britain) do well in all its sporting events, regardless of whether I am a fan of those events or not.

My desire to see Britain win surpasses my like/dislike of the sport in question.

That's a pretty bold conclusion to make off of a single data point.

An underdog story can capture heart and I do find myself at times cheering for an underdog, but I don't feel compelled to. You're very much of a contrarian in many regards (PT over the OT, Hobbit movies over LOTR movies, Crystal Skull over The Last Crusade, Bretonnia over the Empire, etc.) . I find you will nearly always take the road less traveled.

For the record, I would have loved to have seen Japan progress further into the competition.

My favourite teams are those that play beautiful Football. It's the same reason why I like Messi so much. It's not that he's the greatest, it's that he plays the game with unmatched flair and style. He is fun to watch. He gives us memorable moments that defy what is believed to be possible. His highlight real is a work of art. It's the same reason why Brazil is one of my very favourite teams of all time.

I'm less interested in a team that tries to stall out a 0-0 game and win on penalties. I understand why these teams do it, but I have no interest in watching that, so I want those teams eliminated.

Of course there are exceptions to every rule. There are many factors that go into who I cheer for and against.

My desire to see Britain win surpasses my like/dislike of the sport in question.
Fair enough.

The list of who I would like to see win the WC:

1. Netherlands (obviously and about time)
2. Morocco (would be amazingly funny, though it might lead to even more over excited Dutch-Moroccans in the streets)
3. Argentina (because I would rather see Messi win than Ronaldo)
4. Brazil
5. England
6. Croatia (because France has had it to many times already)
7. France
8. Portugal

Grrr, !mrahil
