The GREAT 40k thread

Salamanders are my favorite Space Marine chapter. I like the color scheme, the flamethrower specialization, and of course Vulkan is my favorite Primarch :) If I ever do start playing 40k, I'll probably get at least enough of them to play 1k games.

Mine is Iron Hands.
I always liked the fact that they are so obsessed with improving themselves via cybernetics implants, thus making themselves more similar in attitude to AdMech, to the point that they both shares a mutual unspoken allegiance and AdMech favors IH far more than any other chapter
In 8th I've often played AdMech + Iron Hands as combined force. And i'm willing to bet that, in case of a hypothetical civil war between Imperium and AdMech, the loyalty of IH could stand with Mars.

Plus their primarch is dead for good, so no turning back from that point, i think.

...in the meantime, the xmas boxes for necrons and SM have been scalped within 10 minutes from the start of the pre-order.

I was not going to buy them, but men, how i hate those scalpers... :bored:
damn sold out for you aswell? GW really needs to work on dealing with scalpers

I had that issue with the tau, luckily my FLGs still had a few.

GW really needs to work on dealing with scalpers

with the Indomitus set they did a "good" (?) job, re-printing on demand all the boxes vanished tnx to scalpers.
in this way they:
- picked the money for all fhe first release
- picked the money for all the second releas
- screwed the scalpers that razed the first release.

however, even if satisfying, the problem is still there. I don't know how can you bypass the problem... i suppose GW could limit to a max number of (let's say 3) boxes to be buyed form a specific account, but I also suppose that wouldn't stop scalpers to use bot accounts to spam GW with pre-orders.
Maybe a selection based on the phisical place where orders are shipped to? with exceptions automatically made for GW shops?

...in the meantime, the DG has been buffed.
But i wonder if rumors are true and if we are going to see a change in how disgustingly resilient works

Currently working on some "thematic" ideas for necron lists.

1 - Slaves
we have a overlord with its retinue of advisors (crypteks) and core troops (warriors / immortals). The rest of the army is composed just by slaves… canoptek units and a nightbringer. No destroyer cult or flayed ones.

2 - madness
the first awakened leader was mad as hell and embraced the destroyer cult. Hence, he commanded a cryptek to awaken only the ones that fits his grand vision.
made-up army that costs 3 cp, with Eternal Conqueror to compensate the total lack of troops.
Skorpekh lord, lockust lord, a cryptek, destroyer cult units, flayed ones, a bunch of canoptek

3 - ancient honor
the overlord follows the noble roots of the race, and disdains the employment of "deviated" necrons. Of course, he's got the full approval of triarch praetorians
the list is made by Overlord, royal warden, crypteks, warriors (with ghost arks), triarch preatorians, triarch stalkers, tomb blades, lychguards.

On the contrary they didn’t do a good job with Indomitus, because they should have made it the permanent boxed game, rather than a limited edition release soon to be replaced by far poorer-value starter boxes

Their premise was horrible: limited edition to make sure they are going to sell everything, to push unlucky people to buy those models later at full price.
The passable part was the way gw dealt with scalpers, with the "made to order" part.

Awesome! I wish that there was more structured terrain for AoS. Everything we have right now is ruined platforms...

Well there is some more terrain, but I like more to choose from.

Grrr, Imrahil

Yes. The Enduring Stormvault is a pretty cool big terrain, but it's kinda limited.
AoS got more realms than terrain...
I think one of the problems is the lack of "generic" terrains, as the majority is tied to specific armies, which takes us to the second problem: AoS armies mess a lot with terrains, so It's much harder to set gaming tables: in 40k i've played a game setting a couple of hills in 2 opposite corners, then the whole table was filled with forests and in the center there was a clearing with a small fortification.
You could do the same in AoS... but suddenly no army could set-up / summons its own sceneries.

Yeah, most of the terrain is faction-specific, we need more big, generic fortifications, barriers, trees, etc. that can actually block LOS and add some more strategy to movement and deployment.

I'm trying to complete my first chaos army, just to have also one of the bad guys, so i can play any faction and i won't have problems even when i'm planning some apocalypse.
Chaos Knights (which is good because you only need a limited amount of models, without needing to buy units upon units).

I've picked a 2nd hand army, with some IK already full-chaos (a Tyrant, a rampager...) but some models were still loyalist.
So, it's conversion time!

The first step has been to convert 3 Armiger into 3 Wardogs.

The original models, with a first selection of bits to make the conversion:

the converted pack!

Details.
Wardog n. 1 - crazy for melee

Wardog 2 - Crazy for thorns

Wardog 3 - Crazy for trophies

I must say I'm pretty satisfied by them

THe chaos army project has been finished!

Basically, i've buyed 3 loyalist armiger (the ones in the previous pic), then 3 big knights: a rampager (built with a chaos kit), a Tyrant (chaos kit) and a Despoiler (loyalist, with only the head fitting with chaos.

The Despoiler required a good amount of work, the other 2 were almost good… except that i wanted to make them "my dudes", i wanted to give to each of them a personal touch.

the goal i was pointing to was to have a sort of "tech-barbarian" look.

Here's the Rampager:

as you can see, it was basically already good.

I've just added a daemon skull on the small shield and on the top i fixed a fantasy undead banner, which is pretty cool alongside the spiked poles with chains
