I never seen a meme on this scene before, I'm impressed.

Now i recall the whole scene when Quark offers Garak a taste of root beer and they talk about the Federation...

Edit: here it is

The rootbeer scene is only half that video. That's a lot of dross at the end. Still, the root beer metaphor scene is probably the best two and a half minutes in all of DS9.

I really liked Garak and Quark.

To a lesser extant I liked Neelix, Tess, and 7 of 9 in Voyager
"I've never seen what's in there because I fly around nebulas. This ship is the most amazing thing in 50 light years and you want to investigate everything!"

In Star Trek Enterprise, my favorite character is Dr. Phlox. I guess T'Pol was sort of an outsider too but I think Star Trek overuses Vulcans. But in any event they did have a nice contrast. T'Pol was like "Something new? Gross" And Phlox was like "Something new? Neat!"

I think every Star Trek show should have at least one regular character on the cast who is NOT in Starfleet to provide an outsider's perspective. It's amazing how many nuggets of wisdom are in the Rules of Acquisition.

My favorite three are 109, Dignity and an empty sack are worth the sack.

I absoultely agree on both of these.

And while we're at it...

The more Vulcans I see, the more i think that Spock really was an extraordinary exemplar of the race.

So Spock is a half-Vulcan, half-human.

There are two ways one can interpret this.

1) Since he is part Vulcan and raised by Vulcans, he over compensates by being the best Vulcan he can be, exercising his Vulcan skills and practicing stoicism above and beyond the average full Vulcan.

2) As a half-human, half Vulcan, Spock is roughly half-way between these two personality types so he is softer and more approachable than most Vulcans.

Originally, Star Trek leaned heavily towards interpretation 1. Even Vulcans sometimes told Spock he could lighten up. Over time, additional writers leaned more toward interpretation 2 so each new Vulcan character was more stoic and unyielding than the last one.

And despite avoiding emotional displays, Vulcans always seem okay displaying annoyance and pride.

Asokha was actually Anakin's padawan.

The Clone Wars animated series (EDIT: which filled the years between Episode 2 and episode 3). It was actually created during Lucas' prequel era. I watched an episode or two but didn't care for it.

I did notice a trend that most of the people that really like the prequel movies are nearly always fans of the Clone Wars animated series. Most who dislike or barely like the prequels did not watch the Clone Wars.

Hmm. I should probably check that out one of these days.

Agreed. They tend to be some of the more memorable characters.

Rules of Acquisition are like Pokemon. Gotta know 'em all. Also, surprisingly, unexpectedly, insightful.

The Clone Wars CGI series is very much like Star Trek series, in that there are some great episodes and story arcs, and some that are pretty rubbish and forgettable. Dave Filoni seems to have his favourite characters that always carry the day and can do no wrong, and his least favourites that he likes to shit on, but it's still definitely worth watching for the good story arcs.
