I had a thought recently.

The biggest issue most people have with Return of the Jedi was that a bunch of teddy bears beat up a legion of the emperor's "best troops" and cemented the idea that stormtroopers are worthless.

George Lucas' original plan was to have the final ground battle occur with Wookies, but he was concerned that A New Hope would be his first and last movie and he wanted to include a Wookie desperately so he created the character of Chewbacca.

I surmise, if Chewbacca didn't exist (shame but bear with me). The final battle on Endor (Kashyyk?) would have not had the stormtroopers get their asses handed to them by cute little primitive teddy bears but they would have been beaten by giant hairy savage monsters which is a bit more plausible.

Then stormtroopers wouldn't have the reputation that they are worthless shots.
