It defends how you define undefeated. The Internet is still here, so it hasn't been destroyed but it has been defeated before.

The Great Firewall is keeping an entire country from the free Internet. A lie gets half way around the world while the truth is still putting it's pants on.

Never take a free and open internet for granted.
People always slip through the cracks, especially in a medium where a young kid in his Mom's basement can hack the pentagon or a multi billion dollar social media giant with ease. Where else can you see billions of dollars in defense brought down by a single person who can't even drive a car, vote or buy alcohol. I'm betting the Great Firewall has quite a few cracks in it as well.

Just look at the recent GameStop fiasco.

Time and time again, when they try to shut something down, it gets out and proliferates anyways.

One difference though - Predators have personal cloaking devices, the Mandalorian doesn’t.

Predator wins easily.

Unless of course the Mandalorian rolls around in mud before the battle. :p

In "reality" it would come down to several factors:
  • can the Mandalorian's visor allow him to see the predator through his cloak
  • how effective are the Predator's weapons against Beskar

They each have their advantages. The Predator has his cloak, greater physical strength/toughness and his self-destruct nuke. The Mandalorian has superior armour, jet pack flight and more experience dealing with a wider array of threats (lightsabers, the force, greater range of creatures and technology).

Who wins depends on how the technology from their universes interact with one another. In any event, they are in the same ballpark in my mind. I don't think it is an easy win for either of them.

I am concerned about major cooperation, especially the Alphabet (Google's holding company), Amazon, Facebook, and the five companies that control 90% of the media and the CCP's leverage on these companies.

We are dealing with soft censorship. Wrong think is not being outright very often but it is being shadow banned and undermined.

Beskar has one trick. It's very hard to pierce with energy attacks. It doesn't seem to be much harder to pierce with physical attacks than ordinary steel.

Vibranium in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, does everything including being hard to pierce, weirdly aerodynamic, capable of generation carbon neutral electricity and is an essential component in hover trains. Pretty much all of Wakanda's wondertech and a substantial portion of various alien's wondertech use vibranium.

They have an immense amount of reach, too much in my opinion, but even they have their limits. If they push too hard, they will simply be bypassed. Especially something like Facebook. Facebook's strength comes from its user base, remove that, and they are essentially nothing but useless software (I'm exaggerating a bit, but the point stands). Myspace was once immensely powerful until it was not. If Facebook goes to far, the same could happen to them. There is nothing innately special about Facebook, it could be replaced. Google is a bit more tricky as their reach is far more diversified, but they too are not invulnerable.

Then there is the issue of Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act. If Social Media keeps trying to push their luck, removing them from that protection would cripple them. If they want to act as publishers, by choosing which ideas are allowed to propagate and which ones are shut down, then let them be liable for all the content on their site. They would be sued into oblivion.

The next factor is that the internet is global. To defeat the internet you would need to defeat it everywhere... and I just don't see that happening. Especially as such a small number of people with even limited amount of resources can unleash a huge amount of virtual devastation.

Lastly, there is one more truth that people often don't want to hear or acknowledge. When you push people too far, history has taught us that there is eventually only one outcome, which I say is doubly true in the US. Step on the first amendment for long enough, and the people might just resort to a second one.

Are you fully up-to-date on the Mandalorian season 2? Because that can be easily refuted.

People have been saying that for years. The politicians are not going to enforce these laws because they (both parties) get donations from these companies. Notice there hasn't been any major anti-trust enforcement imposed by the Justice Department in a very long time.

You are right in that the Internet is a resilient entity, but it's not invincible. I'm not saying "We are doomed! The Internet will fall." I'm saying "Keep your guard up and keep up pressure on governments and NGOs that are trying to stifle the internet."

I am not. I should not get in an debate with asymmetric information.

I don't like that. Working on my own fantasy world, I have a bunch of fantastic materials (often silvery), True Silver, Silverwood, and virdilut. I don't have one fantastic material that does everything. I have a bunch of fantastic materials that do one thing very well, or two closely related things. Virdilut allows metal like items to be created without fire and provides good acoustics for transmitting my equivalent to Morse Code.

Consdering there is a rumor floating around that Amber Heard is going to be a lady pirate in the next Pirates of the Caribbean movie which Johnny Depp seems to have been booted from, this is theoretically plausible.

It is weird that Warner Brothers keeps going to bat to defend Amber Heard while both Warner and Disney have dumped Johnny Depp, but it doesn't look Disney wants to scoop Amber up.

That movie will bomb without Depp. Depp is the entire series; it is successful almost solely because of him. At least he will have some sort of pseudo revenge through her failure.

I'm thinking back to Kylo's silly guarded lightsaber vaguely copying a type of real world sword in a matter that would probably not benefit lightsaber fighting.

Lightsabers are practically weightless so it seems like it would be easier to fight with two lightsabers then two swords.

I've seen some HEMA videos on two weapon fighting. It's normal to fight with one longer sword and one short short or parrying dagger.

This is not entirely (or even mostly) about saving weight on the fighter's off hand. Even with strong warriors or light weight weapons, if you have two weapons of the same length it is common for your weapons to get in each other weapon.

It's more efficient to have a longer main weapon and use the shorter weapon mainly for parrying the otherwise "open" area of the duelist.

I think a smaller parrying lightsaber would be interesting to see.

Yeah, I’m not even going to watch Pirates of the Caribbean 6 if they do even make it, because most of the characters’ story arcs were tied up nicely at the end of the last one. It’s only Jack’s story arc that could actually carry on into a 6th film, and without him there would be no connection between it and the other 5 films.

I personally think that pirate ship has well and truly sailed. At least they managed to finish the story in that series.

His departure from the film franchise is 100 times worse in the Fantastic Beasts series as I’ve mentioned before in the Harry Potter thread, as it’s only two of the planned five films have been made and he’s the main villain. I don’t know what they’re going to do there or whether it will work.

Another nice sci-fi crossover! Jedi and Sith would have a very good chance of being able to defeat the Xenomorphs as they have no defence against Lightsabers.
