Never played Battlefront I or II. I heard bad things about it, so I stayed away.

Neither have I. The original Battlefront 1 and 2 are quite difficult to find these days, the EA Battlefront 1 was only based in the OT (apart from a smidge of Rogue One DLC but that wasn't worth buying the whole game for) so I certainly wasn't interested in that and the EA Battlefront 2 is still new out and very expensive.
