I just tried to buy 3 salamanders from Gw. Eveything was going great, confirmation emails
And everything. Then i got some horrible news that they are not only out of stock but
They are now Obsolete. Can anyone shed light on this? Has it happened before?

Hmm I haven't heard anything. Just checked the Aus page - says available to dispatch in 4-5 weeks. The Slann interestingly now says 1-2 weeks.

Either they are backed up with manufacturing and simply can't meet up with demand right now (doubtful TBH) or quite possibly, the resin versions are coming soon. And with it an inevitable price rise - the recent Space Marine resin kits jumped on average nearly 20%..

I had a similar thing happen, I ordered 4 sallies and some chamo skinks. The skinks came in but no sallys, called customer support and was told that they were out of stock and should have new ones by May 12th, another funny thing is my Slann still hasn't come in. Tis making it tough to play in my league, proxing cold ones as sallies for now :(

thanks for everyones response.
my definition of "obsolete" is out of commission, no longer needed/allowed/legal. on to bigger and better things imop. but what things? sallies are extremely powerful against hordes. 8th looks like "horde hammer" maybe too powerful? ive seen this happen in CCGs like magic the gathering.. the format changes and all of the sudden something that wasnt worth the ink or "plastic" is now gold and then they just ban it. I actually left magic because of this. still a little bitter. I dont now how GW operates but im pretty sure they dont control the tournaments right? dont they just make the rules and models? have they ever ban a particular model in tournament play?
if you want to know what happened.... i ordered sallies 4 weeeks ago. last week i called cust serv and they said that they were out with no eta and that my ONLY option was to get a refund. i was kinda at a loss. then 2 days later i get an email saying that my order has been cancelled. ON the email several other items, that i didnt order btw, including dark elves stuff and 40k things were in big letters "OBSOLETE". Salamander hunting party was one of these items marked OBSOLETE. Not "back order" or "out of stock temporarily, would you like us to send you an email when we have more". Any of those would have been nice and reassuring. but the ominous undertone of "OBSOLETE " makes me think they are leaving play forever. Imop I think they are out of production now and a new book is coming out soon that is format friendly. Or... GW saw they were not 8th friendly and has decided nerf us...again. But wouldnt that drive up the after market cost of the sallies if they were still legal for tournament play? does this sound right to anyone? has this ever happened before or am i over analyzing?
thanks for reading

Not saying that what your suggesting isn't true, but imo it doesn't sound like a probable decision by GW. Salamanders are very popular and pretty much a "gimme" in almost any Lizzy list which means a good viable model for profit for GW.

And seldomly are there models put out there that are not playable. Most tournaments are not run by GW so any model banning would be from that particular even staff which I've seen mostly named characters like Teclis and other OP magical items. I have also seen tourny's limit Rares and WarMachines too, but not banning them unless it's for a particular scenario.

My guess for our Salamander is perhaps new packaging and maybe a price altering. With the recent new Citadel Paints and color name changes, most of the GW boxes and suggested colors make the former packaging outdated and incorrect. The current Salamander model itself isn't *that* old but perhaps, as was previously mentioned, could be seeing a FineCast replacement.

These are my thoughts anyways.

why couldnt they just tell me that they cant keep up with demand or that they were making resin models or packaging changes instead of MAKING me take a refund? that doesnt sound very business like nor does using the word OBSOLETE when cancelling my order. im still a customer. For example if i had a product that you paid for and i ran out of said product i would tell you " sorry we are out. would you like to place an advance order on the better version coming out soon?" i would not allow a refund. That is buisiness 101.
One more thing i remember was when i was speaking with the GW cust serv rep madision about the order he sounded as if i discovered something i wasnt supposed to know. he was very nice but there was something else i picked up on. it was very subtle. the way he was explaining the reasons why. he started with " out of stock.. temporarily then shifted to refund mode very quickly. as if there was something he was reading that he was not supposed to reveal. when i started asking questions like "when will they be back in stock?" "Is GW not mfg then anymore?" and "i dont want to waste my money on something that not going to be used any more" its like he agreed with the all of them. its hard to explain.
Unfortunatley this experience has left a sour tast in my mouth. GW is being very, for lack of a better word, shady about the whole thing. why not just come out and say it?

Interesting. If he was being overly evasive, maybe that means the finecast is coming quite soon. Or maybe he was just being an arse? I've never dealt with GW over the phone.

They are very secretive of their new releases, to the point where a sales rep would get fired for telling you about a new model ahead of time.

I hope new models is the reason, there are a few models I've been avoiding in the hope of seing Finecast replacements.

Tell me about it. Slann and terradons are so horrible in metal, wayyy too heavy.

I am going to call Shenanigans.

I was thinking the same thing. Seems kind of Trollish....

Not Trollish my order didn't come in and was told they were out of stock, unless GW is being the troll.

I was told that GW is not producing metal models anymore. So I would assume that eventually they will reproduce them in resin. At least thats what I hope for.

I am not saying that GW is not out of stock of certain metal figs. That would be par for the course.

I was calling shenanigans on someone who has made 3 posts total on this board and started them off with a giant flame tirade about GW. Starts by claiming, that what could arguably be one of the most effective units in the game, Salamanders are "OBSOLETE" as he put it, as well as trying to start false rumors by saying he saw something he should not have and the of LM book being soon when we know it is not.

Now I maybe wrong has happened once or twice, and if I am I will eat my Slann, but until then post just screams of Troll.

lol, just saw his name is dissappointed1. i'm going with troll.

You guys are real jerks. I joined the forum because i wanted answers. Thanks for the warm welcome. If you dont belive me then i urge you to try and buy salamanders.

Lets get it straight. im not calling them obsolete. Why would i try to buy models that i thought were obsolete? GW sent me cancellation email calling them obsolete. Some one else also had same exp. maybe you should stop painting models in your moms basement, save some money, and buy them. Anybody else have the same exp please post?

I tend to agree with SanDiegoSurrealist on this one. I am not saying you did not have a bad experience with GW or that they did or did not tell you what you posted in the earlier posts. It just seems a little odd that your chose that forum name and you are ranting about this stuff. Your defensiveness in the last couple of posts supports my argument.

Also, it occurs to me that if I were switching from all (or mostly) metal to a resign model, that I may do exactly what they have been doing.

That said, no one here insulted you (or your mom's basement).

On another note, I did see on another forum that there are some sutble hints that HE may be after WoC at the first of next year. Take some salt with that though.

Oh, and welcome to the forum.
