Well, I never knew Dire Wolves were an actual real prehistoric wolf species (always thought they were a D&D monster originally, before being adopted in Warhammer and later GoT), before being inspired by that video to look them up. I thought this was an April Fools' video or something, but you learn something new every day! And in 50 years' time we will probably be able to play at being Starks and own our own pet Dire Wolves :p

Dire wolves are basically to gray wolves what sabertooth tigers are to lions and what cave bears are to black bears.

Except for dragons, most of the fantasy creatures in George R. Martin's books have a real world basis but some of that was lost in the adaptation to HBO. The "giants" and the "children" were based on real world ancestors to homo sapiens but with slight tweaks.

I hope not. It's bad enough that people try to keep gray wolves as pet.

I watched the first movie at least 5 times now, 4 of which on DVD, back in the day. It felt very well paced and the characters were interesting, with mostly reasonable motivations, and acted in a way I can believe under the circumstances. Lost Worlds had a lot more really dull mid-section fillers and the number of fodders in that film compared to the first one made it feel like more of an action flick happen to have dinos in em
Watched the 3rd one, no impression. I watch World, zero impression.

The video came to the same conclusion I did.

Dire wolves would have trouble catching enough prey to live.

Science is a harsh mistress.
