So... I'm assuming if you have ASL (i.e. have a Great Weapon) and you charge, you would just hit at initiative? Or would the charge ASF rule completely override it for the turn you charge.

And which do you think is a more probable course of action for GW?

If I ventured a guess, GW will disappoint their fanbase without infuriating them. 9th edition will neither ruin Lizardmen or the game altogether but the bulk of the fanbase will say "8th was better...grumble grumble."

That's GW's style. Do lots of little disappointing things.

With all the worrisome rumours that have been floating about, I actually hope that you are right and GW only slightly disappoints us.

Of course, I definitely would not classify the End Times as a only a "little disappointing".

I kind of am buying the rumours.

Why?

How many models with spears do most armies have?
How many Great weapon characters are out there?

Exactly! This means we have to buy spear troops and non great weapon characters.

Im am sitting here a little anxious to hear about halberds.

I want Saurus to work.
I want Templeguard to work even more.

Halberds should work better than they do, their great pole weapons with multiple uses in reality, not just a discount greatweapon. I strongely support a buff for spear and halberds, that would be absolutely awesome!

My personal guess (not supported by any facts whatsoever) that the Trogladon was initially a character mount for a lord-level skink oracle, but in a test game it completely dominated with lucky rolls and was heavily nerfed right before the book was sent to the printers.

I remember in the Lizardmen White Dwarf issue there being a 'Skink High Priest' which got me unduly excited for a cheap lord-level caster. This certainly wouldn't surprise me if they ditched it at the last moment.

which everything points to, as the newest skink priest model looks way "higher" than the rest..

The details about ASF, ASL and charging are really things we will have to wait for. It switched around a lo tthe last editions, i like the current style, but this is so specific that you will have to wait for the book to know

If the OP stuff is correct I would hazard a guess about ASF that it will lose its rerolls to hit.

So Elves will always get to strike, even if charged, but at the same step as the charging unit. It'll mean that the poor fragile elves will get their hits in before being given a lizard-style spanking!

Overall, I want to believe the OP as it is exactly the kind of changes I'd like to see (although still not sold on T-stomping monsters totally negating Steadfast, especially if combined profiles are in.1+ AS, 4+ ward, 8+A S6 T6 flying monsters will just totally dominate the game...)

Precisely! It would be way too powerful. Why try to skillfully move a slow cumbersome infantry unit into position, if a flying dragon mounted uber character can just swoop in and sweep it aside with ease.

I think GW used to be a lot better in years gone by. Even at the store level, it felt much more hobby orientated rather than their current "buy our collectable models" mentality. Their website is an excellent example of this shift, the old website was full of hobby related material (painting, terrain, tactics, etc) but now all you have is a web store. White Dwarf magazine follows this exact same trend.

GW enjoyed many years with a virtual monopoly, they never faced any serious competition. That is no longer the case and I feel that GW are partially to blame for that. Their "all knowing" stubbornness created an opportunity for other companies to step up and take a bite out of their market share. As to what keeps them afloat these days...
  • they still produce arguably the best miniatures
  • they have a long running history; an established name (though a bit tarnished these days)
  • they have well developed IP
It will be interesting to see how all this plays itself out over the next few years.

The Bits Store. OMG the Bits Store.

I loved it when GW still sold bitz!!!

Admittedly they had to either spend a ton of money revamping it or just shut it down but it was glorious. They had so many management issues. Doubling orders, packing in extra stuff you didn't buy, crazy ass specials that were below cost. But it was wonderful to be able to buy the parts you wanted straight from GW instead of hoping that a dozen sites scattered across the world have what you want in stock.

It would have taken a quite a bit of work to revamp, but it could have been profitable for them. If other companies/groups can make it profit off of it, then GW as the producer of the merchandise could definitely make it work. I also feel that it added significantly to the hobby. But once again, they give up on it, and others step in to fill the void.

From silveralen on Warseer (emphasis added):

2. Chaos: all three chaos armies mixed together.

The warriors/humans have the same general design as now, except more obvious demonic gifts. Winged units of warriors was mentioned as an example.

Beastmen will come in more flavors, for example reptilian and avian variations. Also a variety of more animalistic units.

4. Skaven: two major changes. First, more warptech, notably more apparent in modeling if not in rules.

Second, lizardmen slaves apparently bound using magic/warptech and mutated.

Keep on keeping on my brothers. Water's pretty fine over at Kings of War.
