7th Ed. Massacred By Dark Elf Magic: HELP!

oops...forgot...I get 3 Sallies with that also...never tryed 'em yet with the new codex but they were a riot in the past so why not?

i would not take the always strikes first blade since the assasian will strike before you since he has a higher int. i would just give him good defence and a decent attacking weapon i would also put a unit of CoR in there since they will get across the board faster than saurus and that is all you are looking for in this battle high speed and good power and armour basically heavy calv will do great things with their saves just let them run and as they out pace the EotG they will still stay in the range of the ward save it provides then they will engage and hold the unit for a sec until the stegs can hit with imapct , same with the carno he will hold the unit until another steg can hit on the other side then they collapse on the center he will know what you are doing but should not be able to stop it just like he has been doing ot you
 
The carno won't just hold the unit.... give him enchanted shield, the scimitar of the sun resplendant, and 5+ ward with light armor and thats a 0+ save in close combat with 7 ws6 attacks at strength 5, which will give spearelves no armour saves..... and the carno can eat the characters.

You might get killing blowed by the Assassin, and a 5+ ward save is certainly not the kind of odds I like to base my General's life on
 
ya but how does the hornet blade help that? The assassin will strike first anyways...

Hey you can only ever roll 1 ward save, if you unit is giving 2 ward saves for what ever reason, you only roll the best one once. It is in the BRB

Oh I am not advocating taking Hornet Blade, But putting your Old Blood in contact with an assassin is a calculated risk, he is going first unless you are Chakax, and all he needs to do is roll a 6 to wound to force you to roll a 5+ ward save, 33% chance of living? I don't really like those odds.
 
neither do I, which is why my lord of choice is the slaan of doom with the 4+ save and hiding behind a bunch of temple guard!

That is 33% chance of living IF he rolls a 6 to wound, which is only a 16% chance on each attack. So your chances of dying from one hit from the assassin is only 5.3%, 5.3% twice if he gets two hits which is probably about average.

But yeah I wouldn't put any character anywhere near an assassin, those things are stupidly powerful for what they cost.
 
you know i would put an oldblood up against an assassin, with his armour and ward save plus he can wound him with ease the only problem is killing blow which isn't that bad, and hitting him, ws 9 or 10 i can't remember, either way hit on 4's and wound on 2's with plenty of attacks the assassin dies a terrible death and we march on to glory but the carno will have a long day killing an assassin hitting on 5's sucks but he does still wound easy and the assassin doesn't get killing blow so...
 
Its just the risk, I guess you don't want to face those occasional games where it kills you instantly and leaves the poor carno looking around going wtf?!? There are some VERY nasty items available to DE assassins.
 
They have a sword that costs their entire magic points that if it....wounds, I think, that the model must take a toughness test on 2D6, and if it fails, instant death with no save except maybe ward. Even for us Lizards, that's horrifiying.
 
yeah the venom sword is nasty i would hate to go against it with anything, but it is still hard for a assassin to get that wound with only 3 attacks, i would still not like those odds especially with hatred helping him out to get that wound, personally i have seen assassin's running with troop killing builds so that the unit that they are with will get more attacks and win with combat res i also hate the poison that makes his str one higher than whoever he is fighting that is nasty since he can still use 2 hand weapons with that build
 
Ummm he can still use his 2 hand weapons with all builds lol. But may use that Venom Sword against VC and DoC muhahahaha.
 
was just looking at this and at the druchii forum and i seen that some evil DE generals take that sword with their lords and that it is legal since it is a magic weapon now that is scary evil weapon on a manticore or dragon with a decent save

just wrong
 
True, but we can slap that dragon in the face with the blade of realities and watch it fall over instantly....poor low LD saps....

and skinks could take care of that too

Low leadership dragons? Where? My star dragon has a cool Ld 10, and even its smaller and weaker cousin the sun dragon has 8.
 
I don't know about smacking the Black Dragon so easy.

Oldblood has 5 WS6, Str5 Attacks. Black dragon has WS6, T6.

So... Hitting on 4's = 2.5 hits.

2.5 hits wounding on 5's = .82 wounds.

Black Dragon.... Leadership 8. 72.22% chance of passing the leadership test.
 
Sorry, I was thinking they were like my brothers wyverin :D

But we DO always have a carnosaurs that does d3 wounds and has str 7.....

but the best option is to blast it to pieces with blowdarts....

20 shots, long range, multiple shotted needing 6's=roughly 3 poison hits=roughly 1-2 wounds!

And when you have 3 units of em like me, your averaging 10 wounds, which 4-6 will get through

Dead dragon! Or a very wounded dragon, and a fairly wounded rider!
