8th Ed. Lizardmen End Times Rumor from Warseer

so we can conclude my favorite character (fluffwise) in all of WHFB gets one of the following treatments.
(the bigger the number the less wishlisting)

1. Is getting "beam me up scotty" to the ship after it sets of
2. Is getting the front cover of "End Times: Kroq-Gahr" to mark the pending age of the Saurus
3. is left as the leader of the "lizardmen facton" in the new edition
4. goes out fierce and diciplined as he is supposed to.
5. gets an undignified death by the hands of some Skaven shenanigans.

"No saurus has ever been known to die of old age"
If he doesn't die in the end times, he is kinda forced to be in 9th....as well as Gor-rok and Chakax..

Hopefully Nakai makes a surprise guest appearence! I wouldn't mind some of the ridiculous skink characters back like Tichi Huichi. Even if it's just dataslates/battlescrolls.

I wish I could share your optimism about not getting eredicated from the WHFB completly. In the WD, the timeline says the slanns start the great exodus plan. Unless we are put to the rumored new 'space marine like' faction, we are doomed...

I'm less convinced. We may still be removed, but just because the Exodus plan has started does not indicate that we'll be removed. I mean, the LM haven't been great at finishing plans... ;)

I imagine the new 'space marine'-esque addition may be included within the Empire of Man faction, so we're still possibly fulfilling the 6th faction, if the rumours are true.

The only worrying thing I've read fluff-wise is Thanquol's prophesying about 'some will go to the stars'. LM are the only ones to explicitly have that capacity, which could be a set-up for their departure.

No upgraded characters and no incarnate. We do get a formation which is basically the red crested army from the Lustria book. Some rules for fighting in jungles and weather and also campaign rules. So basically nothing veterans didn't already have if they kept their Lustria books. This is via the same guy who broke Khaine early.

This is via shadeseraph on Warseer who was accurate on Khaine.

Red Host: Tehenhauin, Skink Chief, Skink Cohort, Salamanders, Chameleons, 2 Bastiladons, Riperdactyls. Hatred (Skavens), arcs on bastiladons deal 3D6 instead of 2D6, the skink and the skink cohort have +1WS

This removes the need to take 25% core. Rest of your points can be spent as you wish as long as you adhere to the non-core limits. Skave got 2 formations, dwarf 1, and empire 1. This to me seems indicative of fantasy following the trend GW started with 40k.

so the older faction, the one with the best wizards in the world... has no incarnates. But dwarfs have one. This, my dear GW, is a background rape

I have a theory.
As far as I remember the new fluff states that the Slann are put into a stupor because of the winds of magic.
They are a shadow of themselves because of the turmoil the magical interference.

What happens when the winds are all bound?

We might have yet to see our transcended not-so-peace-loving Buddha toad play a part.

it also reads "but even the stars are about to depart from this world".
It could mean death, but it could also mean "You will still get sucked into the new multiverse".

yeah, they're so weak that skavens kill them while they rest. Every thing i read is worse then the previous o_O

Let's wait and see, tho

Reading the rumours, LM just don't seem to be mentioned. A lack of special characters doesn't mean none exist.

Let's please not toss that term around casually.

The other formations seem to be pretty decent with nice bonuses. Everything about the Red host is garbage to meh at best, because all the bonuses/upgrades are on things that are garbage to meh at best. WS3 Skinks are no better than WS2 Skinks because they aren't combat units (in fact, their one combat upgrade - Poison - is irrelevant as far as WS is concerned). An extra D6 on S1 hits is statistically meaningless. And Hatred Skaven is only useful in one match up and, even then, you probably don't want your Skinks to be in combat anyway. Let's also not forget that although the formation includes Tehenhuain, who has a special rule to join Jungle Swarms, and Sotek Arcs, who have special rules to add more swarms to existing units, it doesn't actually include any Jungle Swarms (presumably because GW don't sell a Swarm model anymore?).

Let's compare the other formations. Thanquol: Unbreakable. Queek: Re-rolling charges and an extra round of shooting per game. Throng: Re-roll hits from decent combat troops, and re-rolling 1s for all core outside of the formation. Middenheim: Unbreakable, know a new spell, whole freaking army is stubborn.

And Lizardmen get 3d6 S1 hits instead of 2D6. Whoop-de-do, guess we get the short end of the stick again.

At least GW have been honest about their neglect this time: red-crested. You know, like red-haired step children? No? :P

It's probably a fun list for fluffly ET:Thanquol games but that's about it.

As I recall, formations are outside of the % allocation and therefore don't contribute towards minimum Core. In otherwords, you'll need to spend a minimum of circa 1000 points on the garbage Red Host, and then still another 25% of your total points in Core (probably on yet more Skinks) - and that's assuming you run all the units at minimum sizes. So at a regular 2.4k, you'll be spending 1600 points on stuff you don't really want, before getting to spend 800 points on stuff you do.

Edit: Ah, I stand corrected. From Warseer:

In this case, one of the special rules for these formations is that if you take them you aren't forced to take 25% of your total points in core units, as it would be the case normally.

This might make the RH more attractive, if only that you're getting a little more utility out of your Core allowance, albeit at a slight additional cost. I'm still not sure that I'd want to, though, when you're paying 300 points for those two Bastialdons, and you'll probably still want to get some more Skink units.

Conversely, it makes the other formations even more incredible than they are already. FFS.

Yup, it's underwhelming. I could've accepted tehenhuin if he got some new rules, skinks having BS4 and the solar beam getting buffed as well. But no, we got this.

Do we know if there'll be other end time books? Because I'm beginning to doubt we'll actually receive anything of importance at all.
I'm glad I'm making myself an UL army.

Rumours says one more, speculations says it has to be Archaon.

I am also building an UL army :P VC oriented though...meaning: just a casket so far :D

Same, just chariots. My friends hate the casket so I'm not bothering too much about that. There's just so much fun stuff to buy. Even without the TK you have so much that is useful, compared to LM._.

Interesting to note that spoilers are saying these formations work with any army like the previous ones. Red crested could be fun with some great cannons.

All in all very underwhelming. Just one more disappointment in the long march of disappointment that is 8th edition. Come on Mantic make a real Lizards army!

Has anyone posted the full rules for this formation we are getting?

disappointed that we are not getting a incarnate character when dwarfs do . WTF!!!!!!!

The Ark of Sotek buff is huge.

If im not wrong this kind of shooting is AoE to all units in range also it can affect enemy units in close combats.

Also is not S1 but S2 and is designed to kill light infantry/Cavalry models.

Ark is inferior to Solar engine, but ark is not a spell. So they can't dispell it.

WS3 to Skinks is huge too if they remain 5 points. Being able to compete against low cost infantry and even outperform them. While you have more movement and shooting. Also against elite infantry you still hit on 4+.

I could never give a try to this due to lack of models but, if someone could try the following...

3 Skink priest Lore of Undead
2 ark bastiladons
2x4 jungle swarm.

2 to 3 big skrox units
lots of skink skirmishers.

Saurus Lords/Heroes who can kill 1+AS models.

Why would you want your Skinks in combat with anything when you could be running around shooting them with poison instead? :/ What low cost infantry are they fighting that they couldn't match before?

So the Skinks inflict a couple more hits. They'll barely do any wounds, still die in droves.

I forgot there was another reason that I hated the Sotek Arc - it's only D6". Good luck chasing down any fast cav with that (even if you can, it is on average one wound to some Elf fast cav. At 3D6 a whopping 2 wounds).

What's utterly baffling is that they upgraded the Arks and require us to take 2 Basties but then they didn't include any jungle swarms (assuming the second hand info is correct). Until we have all the details on how big the skink units have to be and what sort of gear we're forced to take we won't know how many points this thing costs.
