Just for laughs...

Here is more than 2 euros / liter.
Around double that pityful 4 dollars / gallon.
I wish i could be in your shoes. :p
Not my shoes, those are US prices. Gas is more expensive in Canada than in the US. Slightly less than in Europe, but the distances travelled in Europe are significantly less on average than in Canada. For instance, my father-in-law will drive 14 hours to get to his hunting cabin (and never even leave the province). You could probably cross your whole country in that time. Canada is big, and things are often spaced far apart. Short drives in Canada are considered to be very long drives in most of Europe.

Ah, i recall when i was in the USA. Yeah, we're talking about a different level of magnitude.

I've heard comments (both from Europeans and Americans) that Americans are selfish or lazy for not setting aside tax payer dollars for high speed rail.

High speed rail, in fact most public transportation apart from buses, requires lots of people to live close together. Outside of the Eastern seaboard, it is really expensive and inefficient to set up public rail.

I'm in the Midwest. It is very difficult to live without a car though I do know a few fitness nuts that bike everywhere.

When I lived on the east coast for three months, the only thing I liked about living there was taking the subway to work and back. I don't like driving, and I could read the newspaper for my whole 20 minute commute (this was before smart phones were omnipresent).
