Blog Imrahil's Scenery blog

In the meantime also working on some more smaller scenery building(s):

This is done in a faster way then my first buildings, in stead of placing wooden beams and stonework on top of the base form of the house I use a pencile and brush to draw the Wood and stones on it and then texture it.

Way faster and decent enough for small scenery pieces.

The last one is more of a dirty look compared to the first. I like the first more, but think that the last fits beter with the House. What do you guys think?

I am blown away by your scenery, so simple yet looks amazing when finished! I want to do some terrain, but must pick carefully as I don't have much space lol

I would personally go with Hay for this one. It really has the look of an old europe village feel to me with a thatched roof

Thanks a lot!! I do have a lot of fun with these builds.
I like to use 'normal' cheep products to make these, as the models and paint part of the hobby can be very expensive ;)

I have a found a method for the hay roofing that I would like to try, so I think I will go with that.
(also I am likely to use this and future look-a-like buildings for Middle Earth SBG as well)

I like your use of the cedar foliage here! (Also just stunning terrain you have here overall!) I also live in an area where such things are easy to come by and I had wondered about the possibility of using natural elements like this in terrain, do you have any tips on making sure they last? I was worried the leaves might turn brown and rot or otherwise decay.

Yeah, I came across a bunch of those trees at the end of the street where I live. Thought It would make for nice basing material and stripped off a little bit. I left this laying around for quite some time and realized it stayed green all the time. It dries out somewhat, but keeps it form and color.
(My first intention was to use small 'strips' of the leaves as coral for a water themed base)

Nice! And creative idea about the coral basing too. Good to know the cedar foliage retains its colour, I was worried I might have to glaze it with glue to use it but now I might see if I can collect some and make some terrrain with it myself!

Are the piece of cardboard that the straw is attach too already attach to the house?

You planing on painting the straw? Wonder if it’s even possible....

If not you probably wanna make sure you can pop it off to paint the house first and then attach the straw?!?

The strip is not yet glued on, mostly because of handling whilst applying the straw.
I think it is not that hard to paint or rather die. I think it will benefit from some washes.

I will make a little test piece before deciding what to do.

Some progress on the thatched roof, I have got two full strips done. They are not glued on yet and I still need to trim them to the right length. But I am happy with the look it gets:

Also I need to fill in some spots here and there to get a nice coherancy.

I think this side of the roof only has a top layer left to go.
Then I'll have to make a tester to see how it reacts to paint and washes.
