The second scenario of last game night

The Battle Between Men - part 12

The Minas Tirith company has been driven back bit by bit so time for a specific scenario: "Defend the Gate"
My company had to set up 6" form the center of the board edge, that formed the gate, and my brother's company came to take hold of the gate.

The game would end on the roll of an one or two from a D6 after one company has been brought to 50% or less of their starting numbers.
The company with the most models within 6"of the gate at that moment wins the game.

The first two turns were all about shooting. I got two archers at the fence and two up in the tower one of which did became a hero in last scenario. First turn saw no impact. In the second turn I shot the horse from underneath the warpriest.
Priority for the third turn went to my brother so he could charge in with his cavalry. The warpriest and his infantry did not make it yet.

Shooting did not make a difference to the board.
I lost both duels and directly lost one warrior.

Next round priority was mine. This way I was able to position the fights and cancel out the charge of the cavalry.
Shooting finally did something: one Black Dragon Warrior got sniped. In return my brother shot the Ranger Hero from the tower and he failed his fate-roll. Another one down...

No close combat casualties this turn.

Turn number five
My brother got priority and pushed through my defenses with his warpriest and the Infantry of the Easterlings arrived on the scene.
The remaining ranger from the tower decided to climb down (on the outside of the building) and made it safely.

I killed another Black Dragon Warrior in close combat, the rest of the combat phase saw no casualties.

Priority for next turn was my brothers, but I claimed it via heroic moves and positioned the fights, then my brother got to move and turned some of the fights around. No more shooting from this turn forward.

The Duel roles were all in my brothers favor and he was able to kill three of my warriors leaving me with just three.
I was broken and giving me no chance to win the scenario

With three out of eleven left and my brother still at seven out of nine we decided, for time sake, that he had won this scenario.
My brother claimed another piece on the map, drawing even closer to my home turf.

In the aftermath my brother gained another Kataphract and a warrior with spear.
I lost an warrior with spear and bought one back. I also bought back a horse for my demounted knight.
The Citadel guard decided to become a Hero so my Hero-count is five at the moment.

For next game night I hope we are able to play an interesting city board ;)

Awesome; love the pics and the campaign board!

I like how you did the armor! Looks like some dark metallic paint with light silver highlights? Really brings out the detail, and reminds me of the Two Towers movie.

Nice ones!

What is it on leader's head? I don't recognize that bit and it seems like great way to differentiate alpha.

I promised my son that during this summer holiday he could paint another model. (He really wanted to paint one again:)). Wednesday finally was the time. He picked a Rivendell warrior with bow.

After having painted his second model it was time to play his first ever battle.
We did a quick 100 points to the death scenario between Last Alliance and Isenguard

Ge wanted the all out scenery setting, but I decided on a small farmer's scene.

He was so excited about it

The dice were not at all in my favor
This sums it up quite right:

We had a very fun game and my son tabled me with ease... I only managed to kill two of his warriors.

Yesterday was Game night :)

The Battle Between Men - part 13

Despite my attempt to get enough scenery ready for a city themed battlefield it was still not enough to make it look decent:

20220909_002450.jpg

So the battlefield turned out to be a bridge over the river. In the fields.
We picked the scenario "Show of strength." A regular all out battle, the game ends on the end of the turn in which one of the companies is reduced to 25% Kills by the leaders decide the winner.

20220908_214613.jpg

Both parties started running for the bridge. First round of shooting directly wounded my leader, but through his fate-point he was not immediately killed.

20220908_215058.jpg

Second turn the Easterlings got priority and charged over the top of the bridge. Only the leader had sight of the enemy and was able to charge into combat. The remaining Kataphracts had to keep clear of battle, but were positioned tactically on the bridge.

20220908_220453.jpg

His leader killed my leader, leaving my leader's killcount at zero and his going up to one. On this moment the victory was already claimed by my brother.
The horse of my leader was courageous enough to stay behind, therefore an other hero of mine could attempt to mount it and so I did.

20220908_222034.jpg

My Citadel Guard, newly turned hero, was able to grab the saddle and swing in. I pinned the horses on the bridge to prevent my brothers troupes to advance. Shooting did do nothing. My Knight of Minas Tirith managed to slay an Easterling from his saddle. His armored horse stayed on the battlefield as well. Next turn I got Priority and arranged the fights so that my two-handed hero could reach the free horse and attempt to capture it. I SUCCEEDED!!(This changed the dynamic of the game.)

20220908_223016.jpg

My Ranger an archer(non heroes) got sniped by an arrow. During the combat no casualties were made.
Next turn my brother got priority and decided to jump his leader of the bridge and charge my archer hero. On the bridge the next line of Kataphracts stepped forward. One of my warriors was able to help out the Archer in combat.
On the bridge one Kataphract was pushed off due to losing the duel. Not much happend.

Next turn I got priority and was able to trap the Easterling leader and charge the warriors on the bridge.

20220908_225837.jpg

My archer claimed a heroic fight, the Leader was killed(the horse fled) and all three models could move again into another combat. The Kataphract next to the bridge was the target and killed as well. On the bridge I manage to kill a warrior and hold off the other attacks.

My brother got priorty and pushed his Black Dragons to the front. Because the lack of space on the bridge I decided to run my Knight through the river to the other side he succeeded his swim test and could charge the archer hero at the other side.

20220908_231141.jpg

The Battle on the bridge saw a Black Dragon and Easterling knight killed and my Citadel Guard on horse pushed off the edge. I scared the lone horse off with an unsuccesful attempt to mount it. The next turn I charged the remaining infantry on the bridge with two horses and a ranger with back up. My mounted hero with two-handed weapon and the last Black Dragon got killed.

20220908_233432.jpg

The last battle round saw two more Easyerlings with pike eat the dust putting their numbers below 25% and thus ending the game.

20220908_233725.jpg

Although I had more models left at the end of the battle the victory was claimed by my brother with just 1 kill from his leader against the 0 of my leader...
This brought the campain to the climax: my brother has just one terretory left to claim.
