I shared the pictures of blisters with the round & square bases which were posted above here on GWhobby.net (a dutch wargame site), and someone called fake.

@borkbork :: That invites this question: where did the round+square pix come from / who shot them?

yeah, good question. They looked legit to me, but the hexagon one also looks quite convincing, and we know that is a fake. You got to hate (or love) the internetz and photoshop though! We have the means to fake everything and there will always be one willing to do so.

Very true. We can never be fully certain. Best we can do is accumulate evidence from multiple sources in order to weed out the fakes from the true rumours.

Fantasy and round bases just isn't cricket. My army is still under construction and there is no chance I'm switching to round bases. Unless they brought out round bases with a square in the middle for your current model to sit in. However I can imagine this would take up a lot of space on the table.

ReaperMinis wrote a very excellent skirmish game called Warlord. It used square-cornered bases for everything. And it has a faction called Reptus (Lizardmen). (And it is a carefully balanced game...balanced games ARE possible).

However I can imagine this would take up a lot of space on the table.
Warhammer tables used to be 8 foot x 4 foot. I have the evidence. In hard copy. Warhammer Siege used 4x8s for every setup diagram.

But if Warhammer went back to 8'x4' tables, room space might become an issue. In most gaming stores, space is an issue. If the tables are bigger you have to reduce the number of tables available. The other issue is that most stores/people may already have standard 4x6 tables, so building new larger ones is problematic... especially if other game systems run perfectly on the standard sized tables.

I have an 8x4 table (125x250 cm) and it indeed is f-word huge. It does not look too big in this picture but trust me, it largely fills the room. And that is a pretty decent sized room.

How big did siege games have to be to need that much table space?

I guess the space issue(s) might be why they switched from 4x8 to 4x6 at some point. Siege games needed to accommodate the standard Warhammer Fortress model along one of the long edges and then provide space for the OpFor to approach from three directions... ...maybe that is the reason for the extra table space.

That's an epic table. I bet you could play a colossal game on that.

I refuse to re-base!

The amount of effort it would take is not something I am willing to put in, it won't stop people playing against me though either.

@Rikard has anybody measured these new bigger round bases accurately? I was drawing squares and circles and measuring things. Results were interesting. The ratios are interesting:

20mm Square / 25mm Circle
=~=
25mm Square / 32mm Circle

The ratio is reeeaally close. (See my next post)

With the current rumours the way they are, it doesn't look like rebasing will be necessary. Apparently anything goes.

Here is Siggyknight again. With Bases.

The bottom square and circle are 25 & 32mm.
The upper pair are 20 & 25mm.

Notice how the squares stick out by almost exactly the same amount compared to their respective circles...
