SPAWN OF CHOTEC, AKA, PLASTIC SALAMANDER!!!!

A magnificent Salamander model, and I'm most pleased that the handlers remain part of its kit as they are important to its profile in Warhammer Fantasy. Also it looks like it's just one on its own, which, while a more expensive option over time than a 3-pack, will make life easier for those like myself who don't have enough room for three in their army list.

However I don't see anything about Razordons, as I thought that it would make more sense to have a combi-Razordon/Salamander kit given they perform a similar role - I hope GW aren't ditching them. Maybe they will appear in a future article in their own box set.

neat models, not a fan of the handlers sticking around with how awkward they make the unit profile, and having a handler with a fancy banner, and presumably a fancy effect, doesn't seem like a great idea.

Also, the new profile for the Salamander's ranged attack just seems terrible; with only 1 attack you're regularly going to see turns where all your attacks miss, but with it's impressive wound, rend & damage values it'll be pretty powerfull with even minor buffs. Would've prefered a flatter damage curve.

Guess we'll see, but the rules shown so far for our "new" stuff hasn't been terribly impressive.
Yeah... The range is bigger at least. Maybe this is just a special attack and not the normal Salamander attack profile? I feel like that's doubtful...

I would like to see how GW redesigns the Razordon model, as many others would. So, I don't think they'll shelve it.

Personally, I never thought GW would make a dual kit for Sallie/Razor models. They might have a similar battlefield role (at least for now in AoS), but they have relatively differently bodies/sculpts.

The frills on the side of the Salamander's head look a little silly to me. I would have rather seen "dilophosaurus-style" frills.
Agreed. I'm not sure what to make of them. Are they supposed be frills, feathers or some leaf?

The rest of the model is solid though and it shouldn't be too hard to remove the side frills.

That's almost exactly what I thought. I assume they are supposed to be a nod to salamanders that have "feathery" frills, like this

Yes, I think so. I looks like there are two head options. So, hopefully, you can shave off the frill/feather/leaf things.

This is the model I’ve been waiting for. A lot of detail to focus different paint schemes on… and a die worthy of the damage profile. Agreed that the handlers are a bit of a miss. Trying to differentiate from the standard skinks I guess? They look like they spawn WITH the Sally…

Or simply that they are a spawning with the mark of a Salamander Handler, marking out their role as exactly that. Makes sense from a lore perspective even though it looks strange to have Skinks with Salamander crests.

I really like this new mini! I always preferred the 5th edition salamanders over the 6th edition ones.

Wow! What a great new Salamander model! The frills on the side of the Salamander's head look a little silly to me. I would have rather seen "dilophosaurus-style" frills. Plus, it's bit more static than I assumed GW would make it, but honestly it's very cool.

However, I'm not a fan of the new lore description. Apparently, the Skink Handlers implant Old One tech into the head of the Sallie, turning them into laser-guided mortars. In melee, the Handlers might have to feed them "emberstone" for combat? GW is leaning in harder to the ancient space tech theme. On the other hand, GW might be making Handlers more necessary?

Sadly, Sallies don't hit as well anymore (we knew that couldn't last). They still have -2 Rend, and their attack helps other combat. But they might have lost Mortal Wounds?
pretty sure those are supposed to be gills, like those of an axolotl
