My money is on the Enterprise

I know this is a fun meme, but it got me thinking. I think it depends on which universe's space combat we're using.

No plot armor. Let's say generic Federation ship vs. generic Star Destroyer of equal tech level.

If each uses their own universe's space & weapon rules, then I'd say the Federation ship likely wins. I'm not sure how turbo lasers, proton torpedoes, etc. would affect a Federation ship, but I assume it would damage their shields at the least. I know the Enterprise could target specific points of the Star Destroyer to disable/destroy the ship. Plus, the Federation ship is more maneuverable.

However, if the Federation ship was IN the Star Wars universe, following SW rules, I think my money would be on the Star Destroyer.

If the Star Destroyer was a ship IN the Star Trek universe, then I think my money would still be on the Star Destroyer. That thing is armed to the teeth with shields, multiple laser cannons, missiles/torpedoes, tractor beams, etc. At the very least, it would be a tough battle.

Depends whether transporters are allowed to work. If so then Star Trek ships can just beam torpedoes onto their opponents' bridges and it'd be all over. However things would be a lot more interesting if they weren't.

Granted. SW doesn't have transporters, so they wouldn't be on the Destroyer as is. But I don't think ST ships can teleport over to a ship with shields up, right? I can't quite remember. If so, I imagine ST would teleport torpedoes all the time in battles and not actually need to fire them.

Remember Star Wars relies on lasers.

In an all out war, you have the Force but in a 1 v 1 like this, the Star Destroyer has no chance. Also, I suppose the Empire has a lot more ships than the federation.

I should have known that someone would post this clip.

I agree, if each ship uses it's own genre's space combat rules, then the Federation ship would almost certainly win.

When I talk about each ship being in the other universe with equal tech, I really mean that. For the thought experiment, the Federation ship is a SW ship as far as weapon types, tech, etc. Or, if you will, when you 'drop' the Fed ship into the SW universe, all of it's weapons and tech behave like SW. In the same way, the Star Destroyer is a ST ship for this thought experiment, with comparable weapons and tech. Since laser cannons are the weapon type of SW (since lasers, blasters, etc all mean the same thing), if you 'drop' the Star Destroyer into the ST universe, all of it's weapons become phasers or disruptors b/c that's pretty much standard armament for equal tech ships in ST.

What about fighters?
a Star destroyers carries a lot of TIE fighters, at least a dozen of TIE bombers and boarding crafts.
in space combat, bombers are employed to weaken large targets like capital ships. I don't recall star trek ships being armed with a lot of anti-fighters weaponry, bombers are faster than the Destroyers and could overload the protective shieds of the federation ship
