I guess the issue is that in the case of something like warhammer your old tome is essentially worthless when a new version arrives. It's not like an old fridge which you can still use for years even if there is a newer model.
I still have all my old 7th and 8th Edition Fantasy and 5th and 6th 40K books, they are not worthless to me because I can still get a few games in with a few people I know, those great souls who join me in forming the Old Guard from GW's illustrious past.
There may well still be AoS players out there with a similar philosophy, who prefer to play 2nd Edition as it was before the trainwrecks that were the pointless 2nd Slaanesh and Lumineth books and Broken
If you're not fond of constantly updating to new books and new Editions anymore, it may be worth you starting just such a revolution. Perhaps a 2nd Edition fan club thread on this very forum may be the way to go?
O I didn't mean warriors changing direction, I'm fine with that being a bit more freeform. There's other places where some extra flexibility compared to WHF is a good thing.
However, you also have a couple of situations where you can do some silly things. For example the following:
We start like this, with red making a charge move at two units:
View attachment 121097
And finish with something like this:
View attachment 121096
So that the red player tags both opposing units in combat.
Allowing this is a bit silly, even if occasionally it is a nice "clever" maneuver.
I agree that is daft, all models in the unit should retain the same facing. Something to consider for 4th Edition perhaps?
