What are you doing today hobbywise?

Getting back to some Black Seas stuff, I finally got around to doing a test scheme for a Russian fleet I intend to do after a lot of research, naturally using a brig as the guinea pig.

Coincidentally, the image reference used was itself of a model of a Napoleonic era Russian brig called the Mercury, which earned recognition for a lopsided battle between her and two much larger Turkish warships.

I also tried my hand at rigging on this model. It's fiddly and tedious, especially with the use of thread and superglue, but even after restarting due to a botched thread placement toward the end I actually enjoyed the process.

Also, word to those starting out: contrast paints may be quick and easy to apply, but they rub off the model more readily than most other paints. A protective varnish is a definite must if you intend on using them on tabletop miniatures.

Continuing on with my saurus warriors. Apart from shield colour to distinguish the blocks apart (other than the musicians, but then again there's only one per block anyway), I've started working on the rest of the models, starting with their scaly backsides.

The challenge early on was to find a shade of brown contrast paint that was dark enough to stand apart from the base Fuegan Orange, and yet vibrant enough to complement it side-by-side.

Comparing Gore-Grunta Fur (left) and Wyldwood (right). I eventually settled on Gore-Grunta.

Once that was settled, I went ahead with the first 10 of 90 saurus warriors that will end up being given the same treatment: the command group for the first block and 7 others.

Not to be outdone, I also did the same for one of my remaining unfinished saurus oldbloods.

They announced Armies on Parade will be online this year.
Did originally planned for my Death army to be part of the display this year but I feel they could of been better. The Nighthaunt are currently being painted.
So thinking at the moment. A lot of thinking. :artist:

Hopefully if my brain ever gets past the planning stage, forever thinking just like a Slann :joyful:

I was laying in bed and my brain did tell me to just do Seraphon. Problem when all good ideas go to them.... but then I haven't painted any Lizards for a while as this year was a focus for undead.

Normal lighting...

and again with the flash on this time:

Starting to come along nicely! A friend of mine in Germany suggested I mix Ushtabi Bone into the Genestealer Purple to get my highlights. I was skeptical at first, but it makes for a more muted highlight. This is four gradients of Ushtabi-mixed highlights, and two more with a white-mix. He be trollin! Troggin? Whatever.

I'm working on organizing, reorganizing, and consolidating my collections today.

I'll probably work on the second half of my first squad of Monks Mechanicus tonight, or potentially skeleton warriors.

I encourage everyone to check out my blog and the painting and modeling blogs section. I get lonely in there sometimes.

Today, hobby wise: I was hanging out at Virtual ReaperCon.

Search: ReaperCon 2020 (if you are curious). (By the way, It carries on through Monday.) (Some classes and panels used the Twitch.tv option and many, maybe all, of those are available to view after the fact.)

Finally got some hobby time tonight. I put some work in on several different projects. Five more Perry Knight bodies finished, just need to do the arms for them. Also, did some test paint schemes for GW terrain, both 40k and Warcry. And finally, painted up three objective markers for either Tyranids or GSC. Picture will be on my paint blog.

essentially been hobbying daily for the past few days. finished a squad of sisters stand ins, built skeletons. built more skeletons and some desert tribesmen for a diorama, built said diorama's base (roughed it out, really) and planned out more stuff.

also continuing to pare down my collection
