On that note, why are the fyreslayers all in the slayer cult? What is the current explenation for the entire civilization being so ashamed they all became slayers? Or has that largely dissappeared now and they just dress up as slayers cuz that resembles their god but most of them aren't actual slayers in the traditional sense? @Lord Agragax of Lunaxoatl I'm sure you can explain this.

I most certainly can explain it! :)

The whole idea of becoming a Slayer because of a great tragedy happening to the individual does not apply with Fyreslayers, and neither do they have the suicidal ‘glorious death’ viewpoint (only Doomseekers preserve this latter aspect of Slayer culture). Essentially you need to look at Fyreslayers as if they are classic Dwarfs but with the Slayer aesthetic. They all become Slayers because that is how they honour their warrior god - Warriors of Grimnir fight not by cowering behind armour, but instead by hurling themselves into every combat with axes swinging and warcries on their lips - but their culture more emulates that of the old Dwarf kingdoms in the world-that-was than the Slayer Cult, probably due to it being more sustainable (that’s really why their civilisation has survived - if they’d had retained the aim to consistently seek a glorious death, they would have probably died out a long time ago, because in Fantasy lore while Slayers were especially skilled, units and armies of them suffered huge numbers of casualties).

That’s why I like them so much - they have the fun Celtic/Viking aesthetic of the Slayers, yet they preserve the culture of the old Dwarfs which is now pretty much dead in its original form given that Dispossessed have been shunted into the AoS equivalent of the Empire and Kharadron have largely abandoned their religion for science and Ferengi-esque business codes.

That's somehow more dissapointing as that means it's essentially just old dwarfs, but individual units can no longer be easily distinguished as they all look the same.

I liked the idea of an entire civilization that was so ashamed they collectivly took the slayers oath, especially as the oath also includes that you can't be wastefull, e.g. look at Ungrim who was forced to stay back and be a good king instead of going of to glorious combat. Struggling with that oath on the one hand, as an entire society, and the need to still be a functional society on the other hand is an interesting conundrum. Hence my suggestion of combining the chaos dwarfs & fyreslayers, being collectivly ashamed of falling so low but simply dying out wouldn't allow them to redeem themselves either.

Ah well. God I hope they'l eventually do something interesting with them.

Gonna have to vote for Classic Dwarves/Dispossed here. I like the old big-hat Chaos Dwarves, but not the Legions of Azgorth. A lot of what I liked from the old Chaos Dwarf list is gone now, whereas Dispossed still have at least some of what I liked of that army. I do miss flame cannons though...
