7th Ed. Wood Elves

I also have a wood elf army. Anyone else play them or against them?

I play against.....ALOT. Honestly they're a pain because my opponent uses Wild Riders, Wardancers, and other forest spirits which are painfully hard to kill! Goodness, I hate Wild Riders...

I've never fought them, I was going to build an army of Dryads out of actual sticks but I never did.

Fought them once, and was massacred.. Did some essential errors though. Had 2 units with saurus and forgot to move my stegadon in round 2. Guess I deserved the onslaught

I fight against them sometimes, and it's always an even fight. Wood Elves have a hard time against units with good armour and lots of combat resolution; a slann with temple guard will win you the day. Oh, and salamanders, ALWAYS take salamanders (burn tree freaks, burn! ).

Well lets see.....

Played them with Lizards and recently Dark Elves.

Sadly massacre twice ):

They I do believe are the Glass Cannon Army ( Next to my Ogres)

The way to use them is they get ranged support and the quickness advantage.
They move like a wall formation. Usually using another unit to protect the others.

Person I face uses
20 Archers
6 Wild Riders
ALOT OF GLADE Riders?
Warhawks.

You have to pick your fights well. Some times it is a better tatic to stay and have the riders in cover so they can counter charge after the main charge.

The positioning of your units is a must. I like to think about a Just in Case scenario like What if this unit gets charged? What can I do to that Dragon?

Thats pretty much it. Oh and Spell Singers are DEADLY in Forest.

If you get to pick your fights versus Wood Elves you are very lucky because if Wood Elves don't want to fight, there's usually little you can do.

I play against them regularly.

been collecting and playing them for about 6-7 years now.

hmja just one spellsinger in the forest is deadly the others wont be having the same item. but then again, who is that stupid to follow wood elves in to the forest with not enough protection?

i have played WE in many games the key is the terrain do not allow your enemy to have forest all to himself. just put a hill or river in the middle of the deployment zones and you get a chance. all magic attacks remove spirits ward saves. so take skinks to attack to wild riders, till the are flanked in both side, kill three of them in the first round its over.

watch out for waywatchers as they will slaughter any of your scouting units if your opponent is really mean they will skirmish almost all of their army and run circles around you it is most annoying chasing them for six turns and only killing the archer sticks by the end of the game it has happened to me a few times spawning of huanchi if you know your playing them really helps since then you can move through woods and force them to the wall

Too bad that such spawnings will no longer be an option..
From my experience, thouse watchers die easily to skink skirmishers. Just keep an eye on your more juicy targets: Slann, Steggi e.c.
As for manouverability: Woodelfs beats lizzies.. Well, just let them run in circles... as you bombard them with shots from skinks, sallys, razors and spells!
An exeption can occure with some tactical placed water elements off course

-use chameleon skinks to march block

-take a treeman
-multiple treesinging with lots of woods
-x2 units of wardancers (10-15 per unit)
-Dragon ???

against:
razordons: no penalty for long range and moving even makes a skirmishing enemy unit tasty to shoot at.
and without armour or such, welfs die easily when they charge the razordons.

with:
make great use of your strangle root attack against skinks with your treeman.
this is one of the best short ranged attacks in the whole game!.
you can threathen with a charge of the treeman while shooting another unit you don't even see with your treeman.

ignore saurus units. they are to slow to follow. get all the fast , shooting an d magic stuff first. then you can go on handling th esaurus by surrounding them.

That is every lizardmens army nightmare. So make sure that don't happens

i Know! i' ve been playing woodies for 6/7 years and know lizzies are always a good match up for wood elves. it alwaysturns out to be a draw or massacre for one of the sides.
atleast that's my expierence.

Wood elves were my first army and I have well over 6K point worth of them. The thing to foremost remember is that woodies are extremely hard to bring to combat. Their maneuverability and treesinging can really dominate the movement phase of the game. When you know you are going to go up against a WE player, keep that in mind and try to strategize how you can minimize his movement; usually by dominating another aspect of the game. Heavy magic armies, especially a wizard lord with the lore of life, can definitely make a WE general think twice about hiding in a wooded terrain. Gunline armies will also dictate how a WE general will troop move.

Heavy combat armies do not necessarily worry a WE player. We usually know how to dance around them and set up the dual charge in our favor.
