7th Ed. Why does Slann not cause Fear?

When I think about it, I think it's stupid, that a weak skeleton is more scary than a big toad on a floating chair shooting with magic at everyone. Yeah i know slann can pay to cause Terror. But even a cold one is more scary than The big Guy. I just don't understand it.
 
Well he doesn't exactly look scary, and in a game (world) with a fair bit of magic it isn't usually seen as scary on its own, fear/terror is usually given to crazy things with big claws and teeth that are going to rip you up. I don't think the Slann particularly needs to cause fear.
 
Slann don't appear to do anything. It would be pretty hard to be afraid of something not moving when there are several ranks of Temple Guard waving their weapons at you.
 
If you think about it, I guess most things in the WH world should cause fear, wouldn't translate well to the game though
 
I sure ain't afraid of no toad!

Besides, would you be more afraid of a flying toad than a skeleton running at you? :shifty:

Well, the skeleton is obviously dead and should therefore not pose a greater threat then a flying frog that may be poisonus. All jokes aside, i guess the wandering pile of bones would be slightly eery.
 
Its probably to make it less hax. Otherwise, to justify it, just tell yourself that its a big fat frog who looks like he's sleeping. Or it could be that the cuteness/small man syndrome skink on the palaquin makes him look too comical to fear. That wee beastie totally thinks he's in charge of the army.

Additional. What do you think about putting the grima wormtounge model on the palaquin, whispering in the Slann's ear? That would look badass. Lol.
 
When you think about it, what in the Lizardmen army would you not be scared of? You've got dinosaurs with Spears, little dinosaurs with blowpipes, and even dinosaurs riding other, bigger dinosaurs! Skeletons have got nothing compared to that!
 
Skeleton fear is supernatural in origin. A darkness that permeates through the warp and chills your very soul.

Saurus are just really fucking big guys that poke 25 times, in napoleonic warfare, much of the intimidation of a uniform etc. was that you expected the enemy was not going to break, ever, and you'd be stuck fighting to the death, which is hard to get people to go do. A warrior can tell himself, "if I just fight a bit harder these saurus might break". There is no such effect with skeletons.

With the cold ones, in the old book they stated that their fear effect is caused by their unbelievably amazing roar, which is loud and scary like a lion. The same is likely true in great degrees to things like a kroxigor, carnosaur, razordon, or stegodon. They are also really big and unnervingly wild.
 
i actually think it should cause fear well its in a group of temple guard wats more scarier than a toad guarded by heavily armoured lizardmen with giant weopens trying to protect their master that can blow up intire cities

Besides, by that reasoning empire state troops should cause fear, because they have pointy weapons!

The Slann does not cause fear because that is how GW wrote the book.

I feel I must mention that the Slann can actually cause Terror, which IS fear...

Because of Rayleigh scattering; when the white light (all colours) from the sun hits our atmosphere, low wavelength/high frequency light is absorbed most commonly by molecules in the sky, low wavelength is of course blue. The rest hit us directly from the sun, so appear to come from there, while the blue that gets absorbed eventually gets re-emitted by Rayleigh scattering which means no change in energy, and since it gets emited in any direction randomly the entire sky appears blue.

If you wanted a fear causing Slann you could always take Lord Kroak. Or alternatively give your temple guard the fear causing banner.

I'm glad they didn't make the Slann cause fear as it would be more points we'd have to pay for him. Currently I like his "fairly" cheap price tag.

Apparently it's easier to explain why the sky is blue than to explain why a Slann does not cause fear for Steward. ;)
