8th Ed. Which is best Special Character??????

I've recently been looking over the lizardmen special characters and some of them rock!

Gor Rok is my personal favourite for the heroes section as he is relatively cheap and is incredibly hard to kill.

For the lords I can not go past Mazdamundi. He is one of the most powerful mages in the game and hits like a tonne of bricks in close combat due to his stegadon.
Also Using Mazdamundis Ruination of cities on an uber unit you want to slow down is very useful especialrly when you hang some terradons nearby to march block. Use lore of Beasts with him and you can turn your army into a rock solid combat force. He is also a battle standard bearer to boot.
 
IMO Special Characters are no where worth the amount of points. Hero special chars are a deffinate nono. For the same points you can get a bucketload of saurus.

The only special charcter that is any good you have mentioned. Yes he is powerful (and on a steg to boot) but he is just to vunrable to focused fire. And a Slann in a unit of TG is just far more threating for the same points cost.

I have to agree with you about Mazdamundi being vulnerable, but the pure scare factor of having an amazing wizard who is also a close combat beast makes him worth putting him in its own because it means that every single gun in the enemy army will be turned on him and with a 2+ AS and a 4+WS He will more often than not surviveunless you're versing a very, very shooty enemy army.
Another of Mazdamundi's bonuses is that as he is on a large target he has an extended area of effect for his generalship abilities.
 
I would say that Lord Mazdamundi is the best special character for the lizardmen, but I still probably wouldn't use him in a serious battle. Tiktaq'to is also fun, if overpriced. I also think you might consider Tetto'eko, simply because he has Loremaster (heavens), and isn't that expensive.

i dissagree heros are competly worth the points and can kill about twice there cost in orks.

as for mazdamundi temple guard and slaan are harder to kill but hit less so... your choice.
ps: think abut kroak
 
Kroak got nerfed in 8th edition. If he rolls IF, his spell fails!!
 
All lizardmen special characters suck. Thorek, Skulltaker, Kairos, Masque, Teclis etc. are pretty hard SCs
 
Personally, I use Gor-Rok a lot, mainly because he makes his unit stubborn. Plus, you can't really compare Skulltaker and the Masque to anything really, since they're both completely broken; Skulltaker because for what he does, he should be at least 200 points, and the Masque because she's the same points cost as a regular herald of Slaanesh, and at least twice as good.
 
I honestly wouldn't mind our characters being so expensive if they were half decent. Chaxak in particular is a joke, he's exactly the same outside of a challenge as a scar veteran (pretty much) despite being over twice the points of an oldblood.... eh?

Mazdamundai is close to being good, if only you could take some more disciplines... focused rumination and ethereal would be sweeeeet :)

Though yes, particularly with regards to the slann special chacters, it feels wrong that other races SCs are so much better than ours :/
 
I've never taken mazdamundi before but I may have the opportunity to (got some 5k pointers coming up). If he's in close combat can he still cast or is he considered to be fighting?

I'm thinking close range lore of death...

ETA: Gor Rok is awesome, he's nearly always the last man standing in my battles. Loremaster heavens (can't remember his name) is also good if you can't afford a slann.
 
I've never seen the appeal of Mazdamundi (at least in game terms - the fluff of a Slann on a Steg is awesome). You take a Wizard General that I normally want to keep safely out of combat at all costs, and put him on a mount and give him a weapon that are only useful if he is in combat. It seems too dangerous for my taste (but I admit I've never played him - my local group doesn't normally allow special characters).
 
i used him once in 7th, he got stuck in combat with some minotaurs which eventually brutalised him ad his steg... :(

yea gor rok is good but last man standing is going abit far? ETA?!?!?!?!
 
Lol ETA is Estimated Time of Arrival in military cirlces! Don't see how it applies here. And as I do rather love the LM SC models but abhor the rules just buy the models and use them as normal Lords/Heros. And Tel'Ecko (well off spelling his name right but Army book is on the floor and im too lazy to reach down and find it!) has such awesome fluff im considering using him (A skink on a plaque?! too good to miss!).

And Gor'Rok is just a massive point sink. I just prefer a normal SV or a bucket load more saurus!

I think you might be thinking of Chakax,
Gor'Rok is realatively cheap,
basicly around the same as a kited out scarvet.
 
Gor'rok does have the added benefit of giving the unit Stubborn. Maybe even challenge/accept challenges with Gor'rok to try to cancel out the attacks (he can be pretty hard to kill with T5, AS4+ and having to reroll any succesfull wounds). Accepting a challenge on a charge of something that is dependant on charging, like cavalry, can be a pain for them.
 
Imo lizard characters are NOT woorth the points. As already mentioned, for the points cost of them you could field couintless saurus instead.

Mazda mundi- i appreciate the whole steg/wizard combo but he doesn't have any good disciplines, well he only has 1! and for his price, you could get both a good slan AND a steg.

Kroak- Ok but very expensive

Chakax- useful for buffing TG but Expensive and not the duel master they claim. ASF, yes but he weilds a great weapon, so NO he doesn't go first at all.

Gor-Rok- Very tough and good fun but again, cost!

I think the only character even slightly worth his points is Kroq-Gor, And Oldblood on a carnosaur. That if the mood takes you allows Cold one riders as troop choice. IMO the best of a bad bunch
 
I agree with many others that our special characters are far over priced. They have some awesome fluff to them but I just don't see the use of fielding such an expensive character when you can deck out a scare-vet or oldblood for cheaper and at least the same effectiveness if not better. IMO Gor-Rok is probably one of the few characters worth his points cost plus he has cool fluff :-). Kroq-Gar is a sick model but WAY too expensive and not overly impressed with his abilities. I could field an oldblood on carnosaur, deck him out and he'd probably put a whooping on kroq-gar IMO.
 
Don't use Lizardman special characters, they're overpriced. Though in an overall game standpoint I'd have to say the best special character is either Archaon or Malekith.
