I'm curious - whats your favourite lizardman unit and why? It can be for tactical reasons, painting reasons, asthetics, fluff, or whatever else! I've only just started putting together lizards but already I find myself fond of skinks - especially in skirmisher formation. The models are awesome, I like their 'place' in the lizard society, and they also seem like one of those multi-function units which can perform a number of roles on the battlefield. Anyone else got an opinion on this?

Troglodon fluff is pretty wicked - a bit overpriced on the table, but not bad either. Still, it could use some help. >_>

Gamewise: Oldblood or Scarvet on Cold one

its simply a hardhitting hard to hurt beast with so many uses its hard list them

Fluffwise: Oldblood or scar vet on CO or Carnosaur

...its a cloned Dinosaur man bred for combat.
He rides to war on a fantasy Raptor or fantasy apex predator-saurus
He only answers to Jabba the hutts psychic cousin, and the two of them
hangs out in a big alien pyramid city.

oh...and the only way for this guy to die is in battle, as he cant die of old age
and is highly resilient to sickness
....vikings look to this guy and cries into their pillow because of
unsolvable envy.

Modelwise
The old Carnosaur, I prefer it so many times over the new one,
which is okay as I want to build the incredibly delicious Troglodon model from it
.....and then go to tug myself in my bed, hugging my Trog model fiercly while crying myself to sleep for not being able to field it with a good conscience.............dammit Troggy ;'( ITS NOT YOUR FAULT! ;'O

That's a toss up between cold one riders and the good old Carnosaur. Both have the same theme, bada$$ lizards riding on bada$$ dinosaurs and both really set the tempo for how I play, aggressive. Perfect example was my last game when I sent my oldblood on a carnosaur strait for the Chimera and Daemon Prince of Nurgle beside him. My opponent had never played against Lizardmen before and underestimated the sheer ferocity of our cold blooded rage (as most would expect of Chaos). Long story short, the Chimera fell to the oldblood's great weapon when he charged. He over pursued into the Nurgle Prince and after two rounds of vicious combat, the only thing left standing was the carnosaur, protectively hunched over the body of his master and the fallen Chaos prince. Love the models, love the fluff, and I love their brutal martial prowess.

I am rather new to lizzies and that probaly explains my choice, as they both are something orcs and goblins lack.

1. Skink skirmishers.
2. 1+ AS characters.

and of course anything with the cold blooded rule and NO animosity. :)

To me, its Slann with WD. My frog has melted my heart <3

Fluff wise Kroq Gar laughs most characters off the table. Can you imagine the conversation between Gor Rok and Kroq?

Gor: "So yeah I spent 3 days straight fighting off Dark Elves through the jungle. Pretty cool eh?"

Kroq: "That's cool I guess... I spent 1000 years non-stop fighting off daemons on my own. So yeah, three days is cool."

I mean, Oxytl gets sucked into the warp or something right and comes back, but even that's not as cool as fighting daemons off singlehandedly for 1000 years...

Modelwise, the Stegadon is schweeeeet and favourite rank and file unit would be Temple Guard.

I think fluff wise my favorite unit/character is probably Gor-Rok. He's not too shabby on the table top and he's got an awesome story and moniker: "The white lizard"

Other than that my favorite units always tend to be the big dinos and I would say the bastilladon takes top honors because he reminds me of an anklyosaurus; my favorite when I was a kid. It's a unit I include in almost every list I make; the solar engine is well worth the 150 points. I just wish he was more useful in CC.

Fluff:
Kroq-Gar : Ultimate warrior, quintessence of a true Lustrian warrior.
Lord Kroak : Ancient and powerful beyond compare. Undying and stubborn.

On battlefield:
Oldblood/scravet on coldone/carnosaur (espec. on carno, cause it looks cool): our only hope on the battlefield. We can not make a single victory without them.
Slann: embodiment of mental strength and physical weakness.

I really like Ripperdactyls from a fluff, game, and model standpoint. Fluffwise though my favorite is probably Chakax.

In fluff... Slann. Oops I accidentlu moved some mountains and crushed the dwarves empire.

On board... JSOD. Come back baby, I'm sorry, I promise I'll be better.

Model... Old school carn. Mine has broken forearms but plenty know to fear stumpy the carnosaur.

In terms of fluff - the Slann and their struggle through the ages.

Unit on the board - Oldblood. At his base stats he is more powerful than many other characters, we can build him to become even greater and take down pretty much anything.

Painting - Stegadon (or other large monster). I find placing a nicely painted dinosaur on the board very satisfying.

Coming from a background of Ancient wargaming (playing with either Macedonian or Republican Roman armies - Both steady infantry based armies) got to say I love the (unpopular?) Saurus Warriors.
Backbone of the army, disciplined and look great.
The gruntz of the Lizardmen!

+1 Gary_M. I've always had a soft spot in my cold blooded heart for the saurus.

@lordkingcrow - How about we start SWAS - Saurus Warriors Appreciation Society?

Who else wants to join?

:D :meh:

My favorites are the Slann and any Saurus warriors. I love the fluff and the models for both units. Strong magic and strong backbone of the Lizardmen army.

I will join the SWAS! :D

All around, Stegadon.

I think the only complaints possible are:
It's too good.
And it's name doesn't make sense.

It excels at everything else. 9.7/10

Honorable mention;
salamanders: perhaps best game play BUT model could be better
troglodon: Possibly the best model of the release BUT gameplay could be better

Sign me up! I got seriously down on my saurus game wise but have come back around. They are what made me fall in love with the army in the first place.

"Gameplay could be better" is a pretty big understatement if you ask me... And i really want to love the guy :(

Troglodon, the entire reason I started this army. Second place would go to Skroxigors, they remind me of cliched stories of big strong kids teaming up with small smart kids to overcome *insert obstacle here* But they tell that story with dinosaurs so it's better
