AoS What does "gets +x to its attack characteristics mean"

The oldblood on carnosaur can give another hero +2 to its attack characteristics. What exactly does this mean? Does he get +2 attacks with each weapon? Does he improves his hitrolls by 2? His wound roles? What if the other hero is a sunblood and his ferocious rage triggers, does the D3 you roll then get +2? Can anyone explain what exactly this means/does?

Doesn't the ability say "Gives +2 to the attack characteristic of a single weapon on their profile"?
Each weapon has its' own Attack characteristic. This is how many dice you roll for that weapon's attack.
It only affects how many dice you roll, it does not affect the number rolled on the dice.
It is a straight +2 to Attacks, so a Sunblood with this effect on them would get D3+2 attacks.
If the model was given a second round of attacks with the same weapon you chose,, it would be given +2 attacks twice (for a total of +4)

The oldblood does say you must choose a weapon and add 2 to the attack characteristic. So if your character only has one weapon it would add two attacks.

yea, but for example the saurus cohort ability says "add 1 attack" or "add 1 to your hitrolls" but the old blood says "+2 to its attack characteristic". So what exactly is the attack characteristic? And if it just means 2 bonus attacks, why the hell doesn't it just say "you get 2 extra attacks with this weapon".

the saurus cohort says "Add 1 to the number of Attacks each model makes with its Celestite weapon if it has at least 30 models"

the oldblood says "pick one of its (saurus hero) weapons and add 2 to its Attacks characteristic"

So what exactly is the attack characteristic?

They are calling in different ways the same thing: the number of attacks a model can do.
When they refers to "characteristic", they are meaning that "Each warscroll has a set of characteristics that tell you how fast, powerful and brave the model is, and how effective its weapons are".
Pick the old warscrolls of the armies: before the warscrolls, there's a sample with an explanation of the various fields of the battlescrolls: the field with the saves / wounds / movement of the model, and the number of attacks / to hit / to wound / damage, they all fall under "characteristics".
An Astrolith Bearer got: "Celestite war-pick, Attacks 3", which means that the characteristic of the war-pick of the astrolith bearer is a number of 3 attacks. The oldblood increases the characteristic, thus upgrading those 3 Attacks to 5 Attacks.

I wanted to note, that if this ability is used on the Sunblood, you are making a flat out 7 attacks. If you get 6s on the Hit rolls, you are still just doing D3 Wounds rolls. If you get 6s on the Wound rolls, you are still just doing D3 damage.

I may be thinking of the Oldblood on Cold One then.
Whichever one, after making attacks rolls a die and on a 4+ makes the attacks with that weapon a second time, and then on a roll of 6 makes attacks for a third, and final time.
That hero would gain possibly +6 attacks from the Oldblood on Carnosaur buff.

Thanks, that was what I was looking for. Since it switched phrasing I wasn't sure anymore if it simply meant number of attacks or if some other characteristic of the weapon.

Would it affect the Fury of the Seraphon ability of the Scar-vet on Cold One?
It is that which gives it the possible second and third attack.

I would get so, you'd get +2 attacks on your weapon, the weapon has a change to do all its attacks again so you get +2 on the subsequent round too.
