What are you doing today hobbywise?

Note that he played also a game of AoS... let's just say that he was not pleased. ;)

I'm not surprised, given how mediocre a path 3rd and now 4th have trodden, since the glory days of 2nd when it had the most potential. With no new factions since the latter, TOW out and competing with it and so little investment into new mechanics, I do wonder if the designers have run out of ideas and are keeping AoS on life support.

I'm glad to see your friend chose wisely :D

20250623_232003.jpg 20250623_232025.jpgFinally getting close to painting all my slayers! Need to paint the gems and add tattoos with a few eyes to fix. Of course just as I thought that I found five more in a drawer... it's not a complaint of my wealth of models. This is a sigh of frustration as the road goes ever, ever on. Also found a plastic vermin Lord I forgot I had been given.

I regretted not having a Wood Elf army back in the day.
So i took the opportunity to splurge on a battalion box and a box of glade riders.
Finally have them all put together (except the cloaks which i'll paint separate then attach later).
Just got to prepare the woodland bases and then start priming......

What season are you painting for? I have fall and summer with the start of winter. Spring is unclear as to what I want to make it.

Hmmm... a box from evil-bay arrived today. At the moment, I am waiting for our next paycheck so I can put money on the credit cards and then order more old crap from ebay for a project... Boring, I know.

I was thinking of keeping it simple and going summer.
Always nice and by fluff you have access to all the units. I wanted to paint my winter elves like the army in the 6th edition main rulebook. Fall is my personal favorite and my Sethayla army is that color, mostly as I had already painted my Waywatchers that way!

Something new for a new game. My group is getting into Victrix Miniatures' Pillage, and I've elected to do an Irish warband.

As such, I've built the first 14 of this warband, including the following:

1× Chieftain with armour, shield and hand weapon (90gp)
1× Warrior with armour, shield, hand weapon and warhorn (100gp)
2× Warrior with armour, shield and hand weapon (2×70gp=140gp)
4× Warrior with shield, hand weapon and javelins (4×40gp=160gp)
6× Warrior with shield and spear (6×20gp=120gp)

Yeah, I would have thought Wargames Atlantic's Dark Age Irish (and, funnily enough, the Irish set Victrix themselves are planning) would have been better for representing the backward primitives that were the Gaelic peoples in that era. Those lovely Victrix Iron Age Celts look rather too overdressed and are more fitting for a Brythonic army  (as that's who they were designed to represent, alongside the closely-related Gauls).

I noticed Pillage and joined the Facebook group, but noped out of it when I saw how bad the Welsh rules were for it. Allowing the Gaels access to armour and banners but denying them (and anything else decent beyond equipment for skirmishers) to the Welsh is an insult. If I were to play it I'd use my Dark Age Britons as a Breton army (especially as the Bretons were Britons that had migrated to Armorica anyway), but I'm tempted to boycott it purely for making the Welsh rules so bad compared to those for the other peoples. Also it's a skirmish game... and I'd rather play a battle setting. My own gaze remains directed toward The Barons' War: Conquest (which is planned to be re-released as a separate book now that The Barons' War Second Edition is here) for now.

Anyway, talking of Dark Ages and Victrix... I picked up some Victrix Late Roman Unarmoured Infantry on a recent holiday to add to the aforementioned British/Welsh army... looking forward to mixing and matching heads (specifically the designated British ones), bodies and weapons with my Wargames Atlantic Late Romans and Gripping Beast Welsh. This is my first Victrix kit and I'm interested to see how well the models will intermix with the ones I already have.

Eh... I already had the Victrix Gallic kits on hand, so that's what I'm going to be using in the meantime.

And honestly? Armour is not the end-all-be-all of the game. Just for my Irish alone, I'm paying a chieftain's worth in gold for each model upgraded to have armour apart from shields, so even for them it's not worth stocking up on more than a handful of models with it. Hell, they also don't have access to banners.

Got side tracked from my Vampire Coast project. Put together a test model for use as DOW crossbowmen and Border Prince Brigand, depending on which edition I am playing at the time.

And it seems your ploy has worked! An excellent move, good sir, let your friend fully give himself to TOW, and cast aside any temptation from the weak path of AoS...

we managed to play another battle, this round i was using my TK, and he used the dwarfs...

I won (by killing points, more or less 660 vs 420), but the game was a real fun and my friend is in love with the game. :D

my left flank:

My right flank (my pincer position was taking a toll on the hammerers, but in the end i was unable to wipe that unit)

My fav part was the scorpions as war machine hunters. So many memories! :)
