Technically this isn't true given we have a Squat Bounty Hunter and Necromunda gang, but I know what you mean.

But then, the original Squats were pretty much Imperial Guard Dwarfs with some Space Marine weaponry, so I don't think bringing them back as they were would have been particularly big for the 40K universe given they're just another Imperium faction. At least the Votann have a different agenda to the Imperium and will fight them as often as allying with them.

Demiurg would have been interesting, a properly Xenos faction with a Dwarven appearance that allied with the Tau regularly (and in a galaxy where the Tau have pretty much no real friends, they really need one to have any chance of surviving). But then GW haven't much interest in the variety that new Xenos factions would bring, pretty much everything has to be related to the Imperium or Chaos for it to get their thumbs-up. True, GSC were a nice new ally for Tyranids, but they use a lot of Imperial Guard stuff and could be seen as just Tyranid-worshipping hybrid humans. GW aren't actually going to really push the boat out and bring an entirely new Xenos faction into the mix, which is probably the best thing that could happen to 40K.
