...and i don't believe gw is going to really wait a couple of years...

I'd like to think that too, although if they've got a lot of stuff to do for it, such as designing replacement models for those that were thrown out the nearest airlock, looking back at old Fantasy rulesets to write the new ruleset e.t.c, it may well still take a year or two, especially as they've still got loads planned for AoS and 40K.

I'm still looking forward to it at any rate, and they say they will be bringing out regular updates like they did with plastic Sisters of Battle, so those will keep our hype running.

Yes, but GW is seeing the reaction of the gaming community. The hype is real and they know that to wait too much could be counterproductive

I think the reason GW decided to announce the return of WHFB right now is because they realise just how hot the iron is right now. Just look at youtube and reddit and you will see that the announcement is what is on everybodys lips right now. I do think GW will pull through with the no new releases for 2-4 years, but i am certain they will tease us to no end until it finally drops.
Also another thing i thought about, since the Horus heresy is coming to an end soon-ish, GW will be left with a literary void concerning long book series. Maybe a new "Horus Heresy" that takes place before/during the endtimes that try to rectify and expand upon the characters and events that happend in the original end times series.

I agree. Total War Warahmmer is huge, so why not take advantage of the high WFB stock. Also, maybe they wanted to step on KoW's 3rd edition momentum a bit.
