Blog Warden's Other Paint Log

Finished a few more marines!

warden20250516_legion tacticals 6.jpg

This brings the second tactical squad up to 15.

Really enjoyed how the medusa on the sergeant's shoulder pad turned out.

warden20250516_legion tacticals 7.jpg

And here are the other 5:

warden20250516_legion tacticals 8.jpg

Need to take a picture of the full squad, and both squads together!

Those are so good looking, fot right into a Lustria game as well. Do you know how the were called or when they were around?
I might want to try to find a couple ;)

Grrr, !mrahil

Thanks! Quick good search of "great stone dragon mcdonald's toy" didn't come up with much, but I did find an original picture on pinterest.

Lovely use of such vibrant colours. They've really got some pop!

Thanks! I enjoyed how the colors work together on the desert board. Bit of pop, enough to add color, but the overall board looks great :D

My opponent's TAG was really strong in game, completely collapsed my right flank.

...and thanks @Nathan Weeres for all the likes!

Thanks @Killer Angel!

Converted up some legion HQ choices recently:

Delegatus, basically a ranking officer of smaller armies:

warden20250511_legion heroes delegatus 2.jpg

A legion Esoterist, hence his lack of weapons (he is using psychic powers to smite the enemy):

And a Master of Signals:

Rather poor attempt at converting a power axe out of plasticard. I think it will look fine enough once painted.

Took photos of the Horus Heresy collection last Sunday.

Legion Tactical Squad 1 led by Sergeant Ajaak:

Legion Tactical Squad 2 led by Sergeant Kanuur:

The banner-bearers (legion vexilla):

warden20250525_legion tacticals 12.jpg

The sergeants:

Both squads along with my Leviathan Dreadnought and Legion Praetor:

They turned out good! Need to hurry up and decide what I want to do with these bases though :bag:.

Really nice! What is next? Do you plan to expand this force with something particular?

Out of curiosity, how many points could be that squad? how many do you still need to fit a standard HH battle?

Good question. A legion tactical squad bare-bones can be as little as 100 points for 10 marines with bolters and 35 points for a rhino. I have added a bunch of upgrades though. So far as I can tell with the current 2nd Ed HH rules I am sitting at the following:

  • Tactical Squad 1- 205 points (15 legionnaires with bolt guns, sergeant with artificer armor, power fist, and plasma pistol, standard bearer/vexilla, and comms/nuncio vox)
  • Tactical Squad 2- 235 points (15 legionnaires all with bolt guns and chain bayonets), sergeant with artificer armor, power fist, and plasma pistol, standard bearer/vexilla, and comms/nuncio vox)
  • Legion Praetor/Iron Father- 215 points (all the iron father upgrades plus power ax and a combi flamer)
  • Leviathan Dreadnought- 310 points (added the big melta gun and phosphex launcher)
Brings me to a total of 965 points. I hear standard size games are normally played up to 3000 points to get the armies nice and big. That is generally what I am working towards, regardless of the new version of the game on the horizon.

Really nice! What is next? Do you plan to expand this force with something particular?

I have a bunch more footslogging marines I want to put together with new special weapons (plasma, maybe some combi melta) plus a group of x10 breacher marines armed with shields already primed and ready to paint. And their Land Raider Proteus is ready to paint up with them took, and my recent legion character conversions.

Beyond that I have a few tanks I want to put together as well, along with some Contemptor Dreadnoughts that I am super excited to put together. They were some of my favorite minis to build for my deathwatch, not planning to go quite as over the top as I did for those dudes though!

Once I get the backlog a bit smaller I may consider branching out into some more breaches, terminators, and hopefully a super heavy tank or two!

This already answers the question i would have asked. :D

Recent crop of Infinity minis for the Aleph faction!

The Dragonlord.

warden20250517_aleph dragonlord 1.jpg

This dude isn't an Aleph mini at all, rather from the Yu Jing (future-Chinese) faction. But I decided to paint him up as a member of my Aleph force to use as a proxy as an engineer/hacker or other mini.

And here is Hector, leader of the Trojans in the Illiad reborn to serve the AI:

warden20250517_aleph hector 1.jpg

The little dude is a tinbot (in game just a marker for a hacking shield) but he reminds me of Marvin the Martian :D

Size comparison between Hector and the Hoplite, who has a very similar heavy-armor type.

And here they all are together!

Great work as always. Rabbit spotter and shield hack marker are quite adorable minis.

These are looking great again. Your Legacy models always look great.
The white paintscheme really does it for me :)

Grrr, !mrahil

Thanks! The Aleph minis for infinity have been fun to paint. Not far off from the official scheme, and the contrast paints make it pretty fast to complete a bunch of minis in a short time.

I also painted this TAG the same way, he is for the Nomads faction (and is the stand-in for Nimrod the Future Sentinel from the X-Men!).

warden20250531_Nimrod 1.jpg

Sadly he broke while I was at adepticon and haven't repaired him yet. Calling him done for now.

I am also calling my Go-Pod drone complete!

warden20250531_Go-Pod and Go-Bot 1.jpg

Not actually infinity minis here, big one is a 3D print and small one is from Maelstrom's Edge. The big drone has been a huge impact on the games where he doesn't die in the first turn!

Anyone heard of BLKOUT?

Recently I have been painting up most of the UN minis I purchased at Adepticon.

UN Assaulters:

warden20250607_UN assaulteers.jpg
Also a preview of two other BLKOUT minis I am not done with yet:

warden20250607_UN WIP.jpg

UN Specialists with their camo cloaks:

UN Reservists troopers of the 3rd Battalion:

warden20250615_UN reservists 3rd Battalion.jpg

I have been using some pigment powder for the bases, for the most part looks ok, I probably need to learn more about how to best use this stuff.

UN Pointmen:

And the second batch of inorganic troopers, the Golems:

warden20250615_UN golems.jpg

Nice work on those minis.

UN models as in United Nations? Blue helmets? ;)

Grrr, !mrahil

Yup the United Nations are their own faction, along with a US rangers faction, rogue Russian military contractor group, and some other mercenary factions.

UN became militarized in this timeline mostly centered on Europe, slanting towards authoritarian/big evil empire stuck between the remains of the Russian and US empires. Something about colonizing a newly found extra terrestrial planet Abol.

What I am saying is I should read some of the game lore, mostly I just liked the minis and really enjoyed painting them
