7th Ed. using Razordons after the FAQ.

After reading the FAQ. I get the feeling that if one razordon in a unit missfires, then the entire unit lose their shots. Am I wrong?

If I'm right, does anyone actually use them? They look awesome, but I wouldn't get them just because of their looks. I'm not asking for a comparison between sallys and razors, just if anyone uses razordons after the FAQ. and how to use them in a good way. I've read some other threads about them, but they just seemed to degrade into flame wars and they seemed to be from before the FAQ.

So in short: Are they still useful and how do you make use of them?

If a unit of razordons is shooting, in particular standing and shooting, and one misfires only that one doesn't shoot. So a unit of three standing and shooting each fires 2 artillery dice worth, a misfire on either causes that one to misfire, the other two still get to shoot unless they misfire too.

I think razordons are decent, but I strongly say that they need to be fielded as a group of 3 in one unit. This makes them more expensive, but gives them 6-30 str 4 shots per turn, if you don't misfire. and 12-60 on a stand and shoot, once again if you don't misfire. The point to this is that they don't suffer penalties for moving and shooting, multiple shots, long range, or standing and shooting so your hitting on 4+ and 3+ on large targets all at str 4 which is high for a bow-type attack.

Note this also gives a -1 to the enemy armor save so things with light armor and/or shields will have little to no chance of surviving. Even knights with 2+ armor saves goes down to 3+ and you have a decent chance of killing one or two. If the razordons get charged by knights or a block of troops their stand and shoot can just peel off ranks like no tommorow.

A unit of 20 charging them can suddenly become 10 or less! They loose alot of static combat resolution, and potentially you could kill a unit of 5 knights or fast cavalry before they even get to hit you.

Even if 2 survive or so, they might only be able to kill one razordon, but they lose a hammer unit. The point is its a pretty large gamble, and expensive at just over 200 points...

You could try to field 2 in one unit but everything I just described goes down in effective-ness. A unit of 2 would probably serve well in a 1k game, but the higher you go the more you need at least 3..

I have been considering trying out a unit of 3 in a 2k game...though points wise I can't manage it so looks like I might have to throw 2-3 out in a 1k-1500 match where I don't have a slann or carnosaur eating up all my points, lol...

Lore of Heavens (Portent of Far) would bring up the effectiveness of three Razordons significantly.

yeah, the combo of heavens and razzies can be breath taking, as SlannofItza said though, they really are only useful in groups of three, unless you are going up against an army with poor leadership as the razzies so cause fear.
The best use I find for them is to place them on a flank opposite to your opponents fast cav or other such 'flanking units' and watch them soil there armour. One big advantage is that people tend to over estimate the razzies and place a high emphasis on negating they're threat, which can be considerable mind you, and can leave some wriggle room for some of our other units to jostle for the advantage.
Remember that the Meta Game can sometimes be more effective than the actual game pieces themselves.

That's good to hear, I was quite sure the FAQ. stated that you would lose the entire units shooting. The chance to get even one shot of when charged seemed pretty low, I'm glad that wasn't the case ^^
