8th Ed. Upcoming Battle with Skaven

Hi guys,
I have a 2400pts battle coming up with Skaven, and I have a few ideas, but I would appreciate any input. Here's what I came up with so far, but I have access to anything as I haven't bought much yet and have a bit of money left over:

Lords:
Slann with Channeling Staff, Dispel Scroll and Egg of Quango
Disciplines: Focus of Mystery, Harmonic Convergence, Reservoir of Eldritch Energy and Becalming Cognation

Heroes:
Chakax
Two level one Skink Priests with Dispel scrolls

Core:
Two blocks of 30 Saurus Warriors, both with full command

Special:
30 Temple Guard with full command, along with Chakax and Slann, to make the whole unit Unbreakable
Three Terradon Riders with Fireleech bolas and command
Three Ripperdactyl Riders with command

That leaves me with 42pts...

He will probably be fielding a grey seer on screaming bell, 120 or so clanrats, 6 rat ogres, 4 warpfire throwers, 4 poison wind motars and warp lightning cannon.
And a bunch of other stuff including chieftains and warlords.

Like I said, I can change anything and any tactics would also be appreciated.

I believe you can only have 1 dispel scroll per army. You list 3 of the scrolls, one with the Slann and one each with the Skink Priests. Dropping 2 of those scrolls gives you another 50 pts. so you really have 92 pts. left to spend on your army. Maybe add a unit of 10-12 Skink Skirmishers?

Agreed with the dispel scrolls, only one can be taken. I think skink would work well against rats, but I feel that your list may lack some punch. Cold one riders are expensive but can dish out some nasty damage and have solid armour saves. You might want to consider using them. On the other hand, I have only fought Skaven a few times and no time recently, so everything I say, take with a grain of salt. Let us know how it goes!

Why did you take chakax, if you don't mind my asking?
The only reason I can think of it so push his scouts out 8"

If you want to spend a lot less points for "unbreakable", take bsb with banner of discipline on your slann.
40 pts for 2 tries to roll under 10 on 3d6 is pretty much unbreakable. It also adds the benefit of having all units within 12" being pretty much unbreakable. If you like chakax, or want him for challengers it is understandable but I don't think he is worth his points.

You also cannot have channeling staff and dispel scroll. Do you need 2 skink priests? Are they heavens or beasts?

A slann with the dispel ability had also served me really well if you are trying to shut down his magic phase. Most of my opponents only get off 1-3 spells per battle.

Skink Skirmishers will be really helpful for taking out Rat Ogres, weapons teams and war machines. I'd highly recommend at least one unit, preferably two - otherwise those nice, big blocks of Saurus might get cooked by all those warpfire throwers and mortars.

The super-powered Slann will probably do you good, and that Screaming Bell unit will be a great candidate for Fiery Convocation. If you manage to get some other spells off - Tempest, especially - I'd suggest dropping them for spells from Lore of Fire.

As you can only take one weapon team per parent unit in the skaven army, this requires him to have eight units of clanrats or stormvermin ... is he aware of this?


Otherwise you are on to some good stuff, magical defence is important versus skaven - take a scroll, the cube and becalming cogitation if able.

Also, you will be missing some skinks - they are great at taking out weapon teams, as the mortars/warpfire throwers only have one wound each, you are likely to kill them in one volley - a warpfire thrower costs the same as a unit of 10 skinks, so the value there is great.

You have alot of fighty blocks, which is fine, but if you want to squeeze in some skinks, I would reccommend you one unit of 36 saurus instead of the two of 30, and use rest of the core points on skink skirmishers, they are great against skavens template weapons!

Sorry, but dont the teams have a 2+ ward vs shooting? just a thought about throwing those javs when they can also be aimed at his rat ogres and abominations. Just a consideration. There is the thought that he only needs to roll a "1" to kill the thing in x amount of saves, but that might take more than one shooting phase.

No they don't have 2+ ward vs shooting, they have toughness 3, heavy armour, and a 4+ ward save vs shooting IF they are within 3" of their parent unit =)
