AoS Tzaangor

I don't consider tzaangors elite. I consider them the slightly above-average beastmen of tzeentch
They're more elite than most, and in fairness, noone really has sufficient options to have "above-average". It's usually that or fodder :p

Nonsense! There should always be fodder middle-ground and Elite.

well what do we have that classifies as all three? Saurus warriors, guards and? It can't be skinks, they don't fullfill the same role. Neither do saurus Knights. So what exactly would be our third? And we at least have a bunch of models, some of the smaller armies should have this even worse.

Kroxigor!
:D

No really, I think there are armies that just don't have all three. Grots don't have elite units for example.
Ironjawz have no simple cannonfodder, even Ardboyz are more Elite than most simple infantry units in the game.

Kroxigor might actually be the closest we have to "elite" infantry ironicly :P

Meh, ardboyz do at least fullfill the role of cannonfodder in their army, even if compared to other armies they're relativly elite. But yea, since the unit is so small it only has 2 types of infantry.

As for the grots, since they're subdivided into 3 different factions they don't even have a full army so yeah.. no real surprise there.

I guess my supposition would only apply to free yield or whatever the dwarves are called now

It should be mentioned that Tzaangors can deal mortal wounds with their banner. Being able to take them in units of 5 would probably make them too strong because of that.

Good point, I haven't thought of that.

Meh, I wouldn't say that's too viable an approach though.. you need an excessive amount of both wizards and tzaangor unit before that really gets going. Outside of some very peculiar situations I doubt that's going to amount to much. Though chances are that when it does work it'd be oppresive as hell...

Pretty much. It is just too little of a chance to be reliable.
But if it works it really screws with your opponent's tactics.

Not really. You are gimping the unit in some ways in order to fish for an opportunity you will rarely get. Because your opponent will make sure his wizards aren't near.

Tzeentch is such a strong and versatile faction in AoS, they really don't need that.

Gotcha. I'm more interested in undead, but bird headed beastmen just sound cool

They are. I only painted a few (from the Silver Tower set) but they look cool.
....unfortunately if you want to paint all the details on that models you will need a looooong time because they have loads of them.

I'm thinking about picking up a single on eBay to test out wether I like them. Admittedly it would be a costly experiment, but it might be worth it.

in fairness, very few models have "few" details that you can really rush through :P

Yeah but Skeletons vs Tzaangors is a factor of 4 in between. Even Grave Guard.
Those Tzaangors have very thin lines of gold all over their armor and those take ages to paint.

meh, not exceptional for an armored unit. Though I do think they're one of the few unit that come in such large groups with ornate armour.

I can attest to that, having painted 20 of those guys back in february!
