7th Ed. to better (and legalize) my army

I have 16 Saurus Warriors, a Scar Vet., and a Skink priest: obviously not a legal 2 core unit army, but i want to fix that.
I've been thinking of getting a box of skinks (need help on skirmishers vs ranked) and a Kroxigor.
would more Saurus warriors be better?

Oh yeah; the armies i'll be facing most are Empire and Vampire Counts (both are beginners)

Like I said in your other post, if you pick up a Battalion and a Stegadon, you'll be set. Kroxigors aren't great, but if you're dead set on using one, go with a unit of 3 instead.

I do intend on getting a stegadon; as soon as I get enough money after the skinks (not until May) I don't have much money so i will normally slowly build up a good force

note: my Saurus have hand weapons (thought the better armor save would be worth it) so should i go with a box of skinks or another Saurus box (i would put spears in these) to put my army to at least 2 core units?

I'd take the skirmishers over the ranked to begin with, as it gives you a vital mobile shooty skirmishy type force, and it saves you spending money on the Kroxigor if you're unsure of it.

After the skinks, get a Saurus Warrior set (with spears). Then your battle plan goes like this:

1. Spear Saurus march up the middle and end up in combat with the main enemy unit.
2. Hand Weapon saurus, who are to the side and slightly behind the spears, protect that flank and charge the enemy in their flank if possible.
3. Skink Skirmishers run around shooting things with blowpipes, denying marches, and generally being an irritant to the enemy.

Simples!

Skirmishers are great for protecting flanks.
Denying a flank charge on your heavier units(Even Skink cohorts) is gold.
I consider the shooting a bonus.

Cohorts are good for flanking units tied up with your heavier units.
That however limits them to more-often-than-not not having any Kroxigors in them.

As a whole I prefer Skirmishers due to the increased possibilities with movement. (And the bonus shooting!)
Skirmishers are simply our version of fast cavalry that isn't Terradons.

I rather like my skrox unit.

But I agree, we have much cooler things to put in our special slots. Kroxigor models are awesome (part of the reason why I like my skrox unit) but if you're going to buy 3 metal things I think you should go for terradons.

thanks for all the advice got a skink box today, made some skirmishers (in the end, decided to not get kroxigors). I used skirmishers one time for the sole purpose of protecting my priest (since he can shoot through skirmishers) and drawing nasty dwarf handgun fire away from my Saurus.
