When playing the watchtower scenario you have the option to put a core unit of 20 or less models in the tower. Are you allowed to put a character in that unit, asuming it doesn't go over the 20 model limit for the unit?
It could be usefull to include a combat hero for this scenario as tournaments in my area will include watchtower as a standard scenario, it will give 500 pts extra thought instead of total victory.

this is a rules question. the way i see it, you may not pace a character within teh watchtower unless it has some kind of rule like the TG+Slann rule where the character and the unit can't be appart, and even them you would probably be forced to deloy that unit normally.

RAW you can not deploy a character in the tower since he is not a core unit of 20 or less models, but you can join the unit with a character in turn 2 (depending on table size)
 
I have read somewhere that you could deploy a character(s) in the tower as long as they were a part of the unit. As long as their character type could go into the building anyway. I will look to see where I read that. I could be mistaken. I did recently play that scenario with my Ogre Kingdom army. I put a unit of bulls with a Tyrant and a Slaughtermaster in the tower as I deployed the units.
 
I played this scenario the other day, and also found the rules a little ambiguous. Me and my opponent decided that the initial unit starting in the watchtower can't have a character in (I think actually that it says this in the rules, but dont have the book on me atm). But after that we decided that characters could enter the tower.

also worth mentioning is sallamanders for the watchtower scenario - being able to re-roll failed wounds on models in a building helped out a heap load with clearing the tower. My opponent put 20 chaos warriors in the tower, 2 salamanders caused absolute carnage.
 
just to be clear, templates only cause D6 hits in buldings.

What kind of weapon load out would be the most usefull, offensive so you can strike first and a bit harder, or more defensive so you can last longer in that skirmish fight inside?

don't worry, i was just pointing out it should have been the the rules section of the forum, not a big deal really, i still have to understand why there are 3 different sections for hte same type of discussions.


as for unit in tower, you'reprobably better of with defensive units. as long as the enemy doesn't win the combat and breaks you out of the building, they move back and get to assault in the next turn, you jsut want to stay in the tower.

TG+Slann is probably the best combo since you don't have to name the slann one out of those 10 models fighting. saurus with HW?Shield would be a suitable replacement in smaller point games.

basically you want to assualt the tower with a powerfull offensive unit and then garrison it with a defensive unit (if i'ts not yours allready). if you have TG+Slann in there and lore of life, you're pretty much set with +T, Regen and Regrowth. not to mention that even failing the 2+ roll from throne of vines anti miscasts and getting a template over the tower you still only suffer D6 hits and with a bit of luck you might hit some enemies on the side of the tower
 
In 2000 and below I have a unit of 18 saurus with hw&sh and full command, I was thinking of a scar vet on a cold one with an 1+ save, and 6 poisoned attacks. Though this only goes if cavalry models can enter said tower.
I think this is a decent alround character which will give good support and has a nice way of killing rank and file models.
How does stupidity work in the building, I don't want to walk out :P
 
Cavalry cannot enter the tower. Monsters can, but not cavalry. Go figure.

That rule can be found on page 83 of the BRB.
