Indeed they have:

I don't know the full specification of differences between the first and second editions, but according to reviews Warlord have definitely pushed the boat out with the illustrations and so on. It definitely looks a good read, and I deliberately missed out on getting the First Edition book because I knew the Second Edition was coming.

Nice! Do I want to know what kind of price tag that has?

I must be approaching middle age as I have started to invest in historical wargaming. After reading articles on hail Caesar second edition I ordered the book and was surprised to see how cheap 1 72 historical miniatures are. So now I have a whole bunch of tiny gauls and Romans to bass and the new rule system to learn!

I've honestly been considering using my 1:72 Ancients in Hail Caesar as well. They're not as customisable as 28mms (which I prefer to use in SPQR, Warlord's Ancients Skirmish game) but you get a lot more of them for far less money. Which company have you gone with for your Celts and Romans?

Also, I'm 24 and have already invested in historical wargaming, so I wouldn't worry about myths like historicals being only for oldsters ;)

I just picked up a box of Italeri 1:72 Gauls and Mounted Romans for about $25AUD each, which of course is crazy compared to 28mm wargaming. I have a whole bunch of HaT Roman and Gaul minis boxes coming I bought for less than $15 each! Then I'll be waiting on a bunch of 40 and 50mm square bases to arrive. Total cost? Less than a single GW start collecting box!

Be aware, you need to prime 1/72 plastics differently because of the material.

Otherwise you will have paint chip and flake off.

Certainly that is the case with sets made in softer plastic like those made by Airfix, I'm not sure if this so much the case with hard plastic sets like those made by Italeri and Zvezda.

Hahaha I've been told BOTH things online, that they will/won't be fine. I've got some HaT minis coming, I did some WW1 minis a decade ago and I'm sure I followed some online advice and varnish sprayed them first before the basecoat spray. But now I'm getting other advice that a wash in soap for the mould release then spray basecoat will be fine!

Something @Warden in particular will appreciate - Fireforge Games are accelerating development of their planned Samurai plastic boxes, which are now set to arrive this September:

Between these and Warlord's reborn Wargames Factory kits, there's plenty of plastic options to get any aspiring Daimyo started in recreating Feudal Japanese armies, and/or a fan-made Nippon force for Warhammer Fantasy.

Oh this does catch my interest!

I hope to paint some more of my giant samurai force within the next year (after I get through more backlog) and I have been looking for options for Samurai armed with arquebuses. This looks like it will be a great option! I will have to do some research and see some size comparisons to make sure they aren't too far off from my Warlord Games samurai.

Any idea how many come in a box? I will have to check out their website.

They look to be about GW Empire size, like many of their other newer models:

However I don't know the scale of your Warlord/Wargames Factory ones... perhaps a size comparison is in order with one of your Bretonnians to give us a better idea of how the models stand up against one another?

But then, even if the Fireforge models themselves are too tall, once they're released it'll always be possible to try and find just the arquebuses from those kits online, either through bit sellers or someone who has built some of the missile troops with bows already and has the spare arquebuses lying around, buy another box of Warlord Samurai and give them the Fireforge Arquebuses.

24 infantry and 12 cavalry in a box, according to their site.

Good info!

I found a reference photo of one of Fireforge's Ashigaru infantry next to the Warlord Games Ashigaru that I own:

The Fireforge are certainly a big larger, owing to a more "heroic" scaling especially for the hands and weapons. Not much of an issue though when you have a few hundred samurai on the table though :D

I may have to purchase some of these dudes in the future and test them out!
