Despite being posted by me, it has been agreed with LO staff.
LO is a forum for gaming hobby.
Certain threads on this forum are political by nature, and political arguments NEVER mix well with gaming and hobby... heck, politic never mixes well with anything.
Nonetheless, it has been proved many times that LO users are mature people and we’ve had plenty of political discussions that managed to stay civil.
This specific thread deals with a topic that simply cannot be avoided: the "wokeness" in media industry and society has a clear impact on things that are the core of LO, be it fantasy media or gaming itself. Discussions and debates have to be expected.
Of course, there’s a “but”.
BUT this is not a thread for debate. It isn't for discussions. It's explicitly made to have fun and deride wokeness and everything related to it. Which, even if a person can agree with, it’s still a problematic thing to manage.
This forum is for gamers of any age and, as a consequence, on LO we have unacceptable behaviors, we have boundaries and we Mods are called to deal with inappropriate contents.
Alas, in the hundreds of posts present in this thread, we go from "woke decisions are ruining the thing we like" to “woke ideas are something to be derided”, to "woke individuals are something to be derided", to "I'm going to accuse you on a personal level".
There’s an obvious difference between all of these examples, but it's not a linear progression. The content and the way you present it, matter (for example, black humor may not be the best way to joke about a delicate argument).
Up ‘til now, this specific thread enjoyed a sort of free pass; posts with passive-aggressive statements, problematic contents, derogative terms and similar behaviors have been tolerated, while in every other part of the forum would have been shut down.
We don’t think this can go on, we cannot afford a thread that doesn’t follow the same code of conduct of the rest of the forum, even if we acknowledge that this remains a thread which act as a sort of relief valve.
So, what will happen?
- We are probably going to retroactively erase some old offensive posts
- We are not going to dispense warning points for every possible infractions, unless someone goes on personal attacks or posts really offensive contents
- We are going to moderate the thread. From now on, expect to see some form of censorship in case of posts that go a little to far. Basically, if you think that you are going to post something that you believe it’s funny or brilliant, but may be a couple of steps ahead of what is normally allowed, better to err on the side of cautious
