The looming excitement that might be TW warhammer III

It will probably provide a lot of insight into Kislev as they will appear in TOW.

I hope so. I've always had an affinity for Kislev as the "Russians" of the Warhammer world. Brilliant stuff.

But I'm not getting excited about TOW as I just think it will be another dumbed down 8th.

I woud really LOVE to be wrong.

I personally don’t give a damn about Kislev but I am interested to see the full extent of factions coming to the game, as it’ll give an insight into how GW are going to develop some previously uncovered and unloved factions in TOW.

I am happy about kislev. If GW is putting in the concept art effort for this and using it for the old world, it means tiny little lore snippets or entities like Cathay have a chance to get new models when old world releases.

If I get me some drachenfels or a cathayan army, I will be a happy man.

Glad I'm not the only one who feels that way. I would have been far more excited to see some Chaos Dwarf or Ogres stuff.

@Lizards of Renown ... @Lord Agragax of Lunaxoatl and I are agreeing on something again!

Goddammit @NIGHTBRINGER ! You guys need to knock this the hell off!!!!

( ;) )

So, personally I'm really interested in Kislev: Russians in WFB? Yes please. War bears? Yes please. Gigantic frost-bear-spirit? Yes please. Weird frost wolf thing? Yes please.

(Sorry, I should have said "Da" :) )

I'd like to see Cathay.

But I'd personally LOVE to see Nippon, right @Warden? (Bring on the samurai!)

I'd rather they focus on the "real" (i.e. more established) armies. Or if they do want something different, anything but more human armies. That's just me though, I know a lot of people are excited about Kislev.

I can certainly understand this sentiment, and it'd certainly be great to see Chaos Dwarfs and Ogres taking their rightful places in the game, but each of the previous games had a pair of steadfast 'good guy' factions against a pair of steadfast 'bad guy' factions (Warhammer I had Dwarfs and Empire vs Greenskins and VC, Warhammer II had Lizardmen and High Elves vs Skaven and Dark Elves), so I can see why the Creative Assembly chose Kislev and Cathay to fit the roles of the 'Good guys' against the Chaos God factions. Ogres on the other hand are neutral at best and Chaos Dwarfs are lawful Evil, so I imagine those will arrive later as DLCs.

Or if they do want something different, anything but more human armies.

Again I agree with this sentiment, other non-human factions would have been more interesting, but GW rather painted themselves into a corner with this because the rest of the Warhammer world that wasn't occupied with existing factions they just filled up with various human factions based loosely upon the Medieval or Renaissance world - unless they want to do some serious retconning and upset those people who do want those factions to appear, GW/CA now have to make good on this deal. This is probably one of the few ways in which Fantasy falls compared to AoS, which is set in worlds that are barely mapped and thus gives GW free rein to include pretty much any fantastical faction they can think of in some corner of the Mortal Realms.

Personally I'm not interested in Kislev because fantasy Russians just don't appeal to me (one of the things I disliked about the Hobbit films, even as someone who is more positive about them than most, was that they made the Lake-towners fantasy Russians, which just didn't look right at all and severely contrasted to my vision where they were more Viking-like), and same with Cathay - Chinese history isn't my thing (though I can certainly see the Chinese market throwing money at CA in force when Cathay is revealed in full).

Now, if CA brought Albion to life and did it right (i.e. no more sad Gaels/Picts with barely any clothes on, instead a proper Ancient Celtic culture with giant war boars), or if they reworked Tilea to an idea like mine (Fantasy Romans rather than dull Renaissance Italians who fight amongst themselves like Orcs), that would capture my attention...

Each to his own I guess.

Yeah, no comment on the Hobbit ones.

Cathay is supposed to be the "Middle East/Arabic" humans, Nippon is the Chinese/Japanese ones.

Albion I'd like to see :)

On the contrary, Araby is the Middle East army, Cathay is Medieval China (hence the green dragon concept art) and Nippon is Japan, not to mention the Kingdoms of Ind as India.

Albion I'd like to see :)

Certainly if GW follow this guy's concept art they'd be onto a winner for Albion:

Personally I can't picture myself picking up any of those models for the table top.

In terms of Total War, it feels like the grand finale is made up of the left overs (for the good guys anyways). Daemons/Chaos are a natural choice for the bad guys, but all the primary forces of order have already been used up.

Understandable, I just think that CA painted themselves into a corner. They should have saved a more traditional order faction army to feature in the finale.

Am I the only one who's just going to get game 3 and still only play Lizardmen whenever the new version of Mortal Empires comes out? :P
