Question: what does a Blitz Bowl team need to play on?

Answer: a new stadium of course!

Blueprint:



Each playing square is planned to be 1.5 x 1.5 inches in size on account of the size of my Saurus bases. The full playing space will be 22.5 x 16.5 inches in size (15 x 11 squares).

I don't want to do a full Blood Bowl board as I doubt I will ever play a full game. The Blitz Bowl rules seem toned down, to a match on lasting 30-40 minutes instead of 2 hrs (the length of a whole game of football!)

Board construction:



Made with $20 of wood from the local hardware store. Not flawless work by any means, but it won't be in danger of breaking anytime soon. Will be held together with magnets.

Were I to do this project again I would not make the bottom board so thick... too late now!

Completing the board/first coat of paint:



Undercoat is going to be black. It's a flat playing space now that I used wood filler to fix most of the cracks .

Metal strips are also glued to the edges for...

What's a good Blitz Bowl board without some capitalism and advertising? I had fun looking this up online.

I realized that there were not enough Lizardmen-themed Bloodbowl advertisements out there... simultaneously I was also looking for a good pun for one of my favorite Texas fast-food chains... hence the inspiration for the new Stadium sponsor, Whatalizard!

They all have magnets on the backs so I can swap them out if I want too:



So far I am happy with the build. Looking forward to painting up the gray stone and flocking the playing field, as well as building the dice towers and ballcourt sides!

Some good news and bad news from last night's hobby work.

Bad news is the advertisements I have made so far will all need to be redone. After taking some more time to dry, they have crinkled up to the point they don't look flat anymore.



They probably still could be used, but I want them to be more flat. I will try laminating them for the next batch.

After I got to this stage I realized a few errors I made with it, so the next one will be a bit different, and larger. But it works great!

I also spotted the Black Magic Craft logo on there. Are you a big fan of his work?

Minor updates... the dice tower is fully constructed and painting has just begun on both it and the pitch.

May I ask whats the foam material you are building the towers from? Is it sturdy enough to not get damaged by the dice?

I use two main types: "foam board" which is like the presentation boards kids use for science fair projects, just foam based instead of cardboard based, and "soft foam" which is only a few milimeters thick, but is really easy to cut with scissors so I use it for all the details and borders and stuff.

First layer of flock is down, now I need to paint it dark green before the rest of the squares get filled in. This already took me most of the morning, so this is going to take a while

Great idea! I would probably need to get in touch with the actual Whataburger before I started making t-shirts though

1) Original Idea

2) Endzones with checker-pattern. The trapdoors in the center will not be built into the board, as they would be able to be moved around or removed as required by game scenario.

3) Endzone checker pattern with symbol in center of field. Could be swapped with a Whatalizard symbol

4) Checker pattern endzone, whataburger symbols on field. Could potentially make those symbols removable somehow too?

5) Checker pattern endzone, four symbols on field.

6) Checker pattern and whatalizard symbols in endzone

7) Same as 6 but with symbols on field

8) Whatalizard in endzone

9) Same as 8 but with whatalizard symbols on field

Boy, this Blood Bowl turf is absolutely amazing. Can't believe nice these fake ads are!!!!

… People are awesome.

As for the patterns, I tink I'd go with N°6, but maybe adding a Blood bowl logo in the middle? Or even a massive center ad, like maybe Orca cola or Nurgle King?
This probably doesnt help as it's yet another choice XD

Hey thanks for the input @Toltecatl! I have enjoyed finding all the funny adds on the internet that creators have come up with

While I have not completely finished the board I have actually played a few games on it back in April.



Not sure if I posted this picture yet? So far it is just straight green but I never added texture before I got around to meeting up with my brother.

Blitzbowl was a fun game, super easy to pick up, maybe ~30 minutes per game? It was a nice change from Mordheim or especially bigger ones like WHF.

I hope to get back to making terrain projects in the future at some point

Its also crazy to think that both my main Lizardmen blog and my "other" paint log each have an equal number of posts! I need to go paint more Lizardmen!
