The GREAT 40k thread

After completing the Tank Battalion, i wanted to complete the army with some troops.

the problem, of course, is that the original GW Tallarn models are rare and pricey.
There are alternatives from 3rd party producers (some of them are pretty nice), but it happened i've got a bunch of old cadians models (not all of them included in the pic).

we all know the typical tallarn soldier how it looks like:

alas, to use the green stuff to model a full kufiya doesn't work that well when you have only a sergeant with no helmet... and with the helmet AND the green stuff, the head turned into something too big.

Then the idea: a mere scarf, desert storm style!

Still working on it, given that I've had 3 metal psykers still in the box and i've managed to find a Taurox for 20 Euros..
 
A bit of an update on where my Salamanders collection for Horus Heresy and 40k is standing:

Top shelf is everything I've been normally packing into a 3000pt game.

Everything below that is spare parts, models that come out once in a blue moon for bigger games, 40k-only crap, and silly side projects.

More or less, at least in my local area. While I am aware of HH games being played at as low as 1000pts, most people I've interacted with on the matter prefer the 'Apocalypse-lite' scale games.

Oh, yes! Compared to vanilla 40k, units in Horus Heresy tend to be about 2/3 the points value on average. For instance, 10-man MSU tactical squads (you can boost it up to 20 for 10pts/model) are 100pts before upgrades, Rhinos are 35 points each with the pintle-mounted combi-bolter, and land raiders are 220 with all of their normal weapons, just for a few examples.

THe orks unleash a WAAAGH in the very first turn, delivering their heaviest punch directly at the heart of the IG battalion.

but that baneblade will prove itself to be a even harder nut to crack, and the following move by the 7° will spell the doom for the advanced greenskin threat, forcing my opponent to concede at the end of the second round....

Wow @Killer Angel you have been hard at work on those Tallarns!

The tank corps you have created looks great, I really like how clean and crisp the painting is on these tanks, plus all those rivets. The writing and symbols on the tanks look great too!

And I really like the work you did on your tank commander, the green stuff work is spot on and the finished mini is fantastic! :artist::artist::artist:
 
Wow @Killer Angel those armies look epic! I recently started collecting a bunch of Necron minis but haven't even unboxed most of em, much less started painting em. My army theme was gonna go for like Dark Catholic/Crusader vibes. Using Gold's etc, in my head it looks amazing.

Ohhh, interesting. I went for a more classic scheme with mine, so i'm curious about any different idea.
 
1. I'm repainting my marines silver and navy blue. I need good navy blue that dries matte recommendations please.

2. Calling it now boys, if one of the plot points for 10h Ed is that the hive fleets got stronger fighting the orks, and broke out of the cordon impenetra, then we are going to see Krork in 10th Ed.
