7th Ed. Tetto'eko users....

Hi all

ive got a 3000 point battle coming up....big game!
and im tempted to make a tetto'eko model, has anyone ever made this model and actually used him??
for the points he's worth, im tempted to take him and sit him in a big unit of skinks(for some sort of protection, which comes cheap in points) sat at the back of the battlefield...hopefully on a hill, and just let him got mental with magic!

whats everyones views on him??
has anyone used him?
has anyone been successful?

I pretty much have the same concept you do. I'm thinking the unit won't have much staying power and thus I intend to keep a razordon or salamander around for the added weight of protection. I probably won't be fielding him for some time though as I have yet to put the model together. If you do get a chance to use it let me know how it goes!
 
I used Tetto'eko my last two games. I will say dont use him in a lot of skinks and expect to stay in close combat because run a lot of the time. Best advice is to maybe put him in 10 skinks. and just run around to stay away from heavy units. Besides that, he is a great caster for the point value. Having access to ever spell in lore of heavens guaranteed is great. My first game with him, I had pretty bad luck. MY second game though, I did really well, got an irresistable comet of cassadora on threes in combination with the cosmic event. Rerolling on comet of cassadora is tops. I played against beastmen though so that might be something to think about and the unit also had fear that charged my unit which just made my skinks flee.

I've used him a few times and he's never been that great. Sadly, he needs to be level 3 to really get his spells off. 3 dice for comet isn't much of a gaurantee for it to be cast but if he was level 3, then it be much better. For having comet as basically his namesake, it never got cast once for me in all those games :( so i resorted to using him for lightning bolts, HOWEVER, his redeploy rule rocks. I don't play often so still make very silly deploy/movement errors. Thus, his redeploy helps me :)

I want to sculpt a palanquin and do a nice conversion for him, as i really want to like that cahracter. Just find our SCs very disappointing.

WHen I use him though, I put him in a unit of 20 temple guard, and give the standard bearer the totem of prophecy so no auto break. Since the skinks don't become stubborn or immune to pscy, atleast the TG are tougher, but very costly).

(NOTE: GW never answered this in their FAQ..atleast, not in plain english as they should have. You'd imagine they were smarter than that. All we need is "he can ONLY join skinks", OR "he can join both" . According to the wording, he can join both cause it says "his palanquin operates in teh same way as a Slann's except that he may be placed in 2nd rank of skinks rather than temple guard. THis can mean both...

How do people play him?

it is rather clearly worded, you may place him like any other character. he is subject to all the rules governing characer with the exception that when in a skik unit he behaves like a slaan (2nd rank, etc)

A slann's palaquin goes into rank 2 of temple guard. BUt tetto'eko gets the option that he can also go into rank 2 of skinks.

It's actually not clear cause that sentence can mean both.

Actually it is rather clear, he can go in "2nd rank of skinks rather than Temple Guard". So for every reference to TG on pg 43, replace it with Skinks.

So sure Tetto'eko can join a unit of TG, but he would do so in the front rank.
 
I've been re-reading that...and yes, i agree.

So now, I think i'll be using him on his own...not with the TG. since skinks in combat are not worth it. Rather not have them break since the skinks don't gain immune to psychology or stubborn...

Ivé used Tettoeko in a few battle, he works "good", just that, use him with 10 skinks just to protect from missiles...

In larger games he works real nice if you take Lord Kroak, since Lord Kroak power dice are placed in the poll, in the first turns instead of using they on Lord Kroaks you can use it on Tettoeko, making him in the first and second turn use the 2 d6 hits and Comet of Casandora...

Stil, I use him on a 2250 list, with an Oldblood on Carnossaur, 1 Engine, Tettoeko and Gor-Rok, inside the unit of 10 skinks ... Works "fine"...

Could be better if they drop his points in about 50pts or if they raise him to a 3rd level wizard (that is most appropriate)

indeed, level 3 would be most useful. i just cant justify taking him, because all his abilties pretty much revolve around the comet, and with only 3 dice to cast, he's just not going to make it often enough.
 
I really like Tetto'eko but he really needs to be L.3 to make him able to reliably cast the Comet since he can't do that now. He's other special rules are nice but if you want a caster a standard Skink Priest is probably better.
 
I have used him and he can be very useful. Reducing casting values for any lore is great, and the any double is just dandy. And if you use him in a very large game w allies, that reduced casting value ability is very much appreciated all around=)

Does this not mean that the Skinks become Stubborn and Immune to Psycho. when joined by Tetto'eko.

I believe it means that he can go in the second rank and have line of sight of a large target when casting.
 
I though that at the start, but the wording clearly says:

they enjoy the same rule as Temple Guard.

Plural, indicating the skinks become Temple Guard. I also assume that Tetto' targets the same way a normal slann does.

Well it does say "rule" and not "rules" if you wan't to pick it apart.
so what Specialy "rule" do you think they mean?
I would think it woud be the "Revered Guardian" rule.
(Don't have my book at the moment so I am just going from memory here)

Opps. I am thinking of the wrong name for the rule... "Sacred Duty" is the right name.
 
The only rule Temple Guard have is "Sacred Duty", when joined by a Slann. (We can ignore, cold blooded and scaly skin)

Tetto' must make the Skinks Stubborn and Immune to Psycho. Well that's still my take on it.

I did try out Tetto'eko in a game and like you've all said, I didn't get comet off once to make it effective. What sucked about that game was that I also only rolled a one for his redeploy special rule and the turn I used his special eye I didn't get any spells off (horrible dice rolls) for that lore.
