7th Ed. Sun Standard of Chotec 2-1 or 1-2?

I read the new book and saw that the Sun Standard of Chotec gives a -2 to hit the unit it's in if shot at from under twelve inches and -1 if shot at from farther than twelve inches. Yet in the GW article on-line on how to use Chakax Adam Troke, article author, states that it's the other way around for the shooting minuses. Who is right, the book or the article? I'm going to throw my army in with all new goodies at an RTT this weekend and I don't want to lose out on anything new or use something incorrectly that gives me an advantage.

The banner gives a -2 to shoot at when the enemy is closer, not further away. So it would be -1 from far distances, and -2 at short distance.

You cant base yout assuming of how a item works from an article. Not even gw. Only official rule clarification articles like the errata and faq can be used.
If it is really a typo then maybe with the next series of armybooks it is changed and gw will announce this change official.

So until then, -2at shortrange and -1 from the long distence

It makes sense to me... It is the sun standard, I guess it uses bright light to blind the enemy so they can't shoot as well. So the closer you get, the harder it is to see.

Go by the rulebook. GW people have no idea what they are on about, even those that wrote the book. They make more mistakes than the rest of us.

Thanks all for the assist, I'd pretty much set-up to use it per the rulebook, but wanted to come by here and figure out what was the deal with that article and find out how valid, credible, it was. Look out Saturday there's a new sheriff in the jungle.

Also at over 12 they are most likely sooting at over half range and already have a -1 to their modifier.

It specifically states that shooting at the unit with the banner from further away then 12" suffers a -1 to hit, while enemy shooting within 12" is at -2 to shoot. This is actually very cool, since if we charge one of those units they'll be at -3.
