I managed to get my hands on one on monday and although the kit is really nice it is the 1st plastic kit that I have had to use green stuff on. I found around the front legs and around the front of the head to be the worst fitting places. They still join ok but do leave sone unsightly gaps. So when buying your steg i would say better grab some green stuff just in case.
 
Wow that really sucks if it is true... They are meant to be using improved technology to make plastics fit together almost perfectly, the recent HE plastic dragon stuck together soooo well and easily. I would be disappointed if there was gaps in the stegadon.

Thanks for the heads up though, I have GS and just finished filling the huuuge gaps on the carnosaur and rider so the steg shouldn't be too much trouble.
 
that's really disappointing to hear about such a great looking kit. I remember having problems with the VC corpse cart kit (the rider) and thinking "this should be fitting perfectly, no?"
 
Hopefully the problem is from warping from heat and not an inherit problem with the set. I'm pretty sure even GW can make the model they seem to be pushing most of out an army up to at least regular standards.
 
Let's just hope that model was an unlucky one.. It should be possible to make a plastic miniature with just glue.
 
Even with a little shaving of the plastic certain pieces still did not fit flush? Or just standard out of the box they were not lining up?
 
This will be irritating at the very least if it's true for all of the models. Especially for people like me who worship Steggies.

no I am quite picky when it coms to triming my centre pieces for my army so yeah I did a little shaving but actualy the pieces I had just seemed too small.

The one at my local GW seemed to line up with no GS, I am getting mine on the 6th or 7th, I really should call to ask.
 
Ive put together 2 of these kits so far, and mine have fit perfect, could almost snap together the stegadon part of it. Maybe it was just a bad mold you got
 
For those of you that have assembled Steg's already - can you tell me the height (inches) of the model right to the highest point (for example, the tips of the totems)? It's for purposes of picking out foam trays for transporting.

If too tall I guess might have to lie them down on their sides.
 
pretty much bang on 5 inches...i would be putting it on its side, probably fit 2 in a tray
 
I just got my first Stegadon.

Overall, I am not overly thrilled with it as a plastic kits... The gaps aren't too bad, but there are a lot of them. They could have cut out quite a few pieces IMO. Impressively though, there are pretty much no mould lines on any of it.

I had the same problem as the OP, around the neck it doesn't go together very well. I would almost sugest trying to put the neck on before the two top pieces, and see if it goes better that way. Will do a dry run with my next one.

Two little warnings, when you get to the back of the steg above the tail (part 2c in the instructions) definitely put the two smaller pieces in before the large one, do a dry run. I put the large one on first and the small ones wouldn't go in without clipping the pegs and using force.

Also if you decide to use the head with the open mouth, put the tougue in place before putting the two sides of the head together. Otherwise it pretty much won't go. Luckily I noticed that before gluing.


On to the howdah now I guess.
 
The howdah seems like a piece you might not have to glue in place, it sits there pretty firm without glue. So for transporting it might be a good idea to not glue it down
 
Hm - I'm having the opposite experience. I'm building 2 at this moment, and both have gone together beautifully. In fact, the whole time I've been thinking "this thing is just epic".

I may have a couple of very small, thin gaps to fill which I can probably just fill with a tiny steak of gap-filling glue they are so thin. Maybe not even necessary.

The plates on the back - yep, designed to go small to large because they overlap. They show that little picture of them overlapping probably to tip you off to put the small one on first, but I think they maybe could've put little numbers next to them on the diagram or something.

The only trouble I'm having is fitting 4 more skinks on my EOTG with the priest.
 
I just put mine together, and I have to say it is one of the best plastic kits I've ever worked with!

Any plastic kit will need gaps filled with greenstuff if you want a decent finish. The gaps on this model are small, and easily concealed by detail on the model.

The mold lines were cleverly hidden on the edges of the pieces; almost no clean-up required!

The pieces fit together quite intuitively, and fit well. Next to no trimming and bending, common on so many plastic kits, was required.

GW has definately produced an excellent model here, in every regard.
 
well looking at the responce to my post i would say there are mixed reports, from this i would think that there have been some kits that have had problems and others which go together well. I just think it will be down to which one you end up with next that will gauge your experiance. mines nearly painted and looks great imo. I will post pics soon.
 
Quick question about the howdah, does it need to be glued on? or can it just rest on top? I want to make all 3 howdahs and interchange them.
 
unfortunatly the 3 howdahs use some of the same parts, you will only be ablet o build 1, however with a little tinkering you may be able to keep the blowpipes and large bow loose so the can be swapped and even maybe magnatize the EOTG so that can be removed and used at eash.
 
the howdah it self is quite firm when put on the stegadon. it is not necesery to gleu it.
hell i can even hold the whole model by just holding the howdah!
i will be transporting my stegs in 3 parts: stegadon, front howdah, and back howdah.
at the table just click and play :)


as for interchanging the parts on the howdah it self, maybe try pinning everything.
like the throne for the chief, the engine for the priest, and the bolthrower/blowpipes for ancient/normal steggie.
i think it wouldn't be that much of a problem.
