Starting Seraphon...which colors to buy?

Hello fellow wargamers,

I am just getting started with my Seraphon force and the start collecting-Box. First up I wanted to paint my Saurus Warriors. The paint scheme I am looking for is the classic dark blue /light blue with a red stripe. (see picture)

I am not sure which colors to use. GW also tends to use different colors in their painting videos. What I found out so far: (in order of applying)

Option 1:
Scales: Kantor Blue, Nuln Oil, Imrik Blue
Belly: Sotek Green, Coelia Greenshade, Templeguard Blue

Option 2:
Scales: Macragge Blue, Coelia Greenshade, Ehterium Blue
Belly: Templeguard Blue, Coelia Greenshade, Baharroth Blue

I want to limit my painting to base, wash, drybrush.

What colors would you suggest for the paint scheme on the picture? What kind of red do they use for the stripes? I aim to get the bright and lively turquoise colors.

Any advise is highly appreciated

I think the red is bloodletter or mephiston Red. Temple Guard Blue, and stegadon scale for the belly.

I did the Fangs of Sotek with Sotek Green skin, and having sprayed it with Macragge Blue, I left the scales that colour. I then shaded in Drakonhof Nightshade. However, my forces are really dark (as you can see on my painting log) so you probably don't want to use my scheme. Have a look and see what you think

I am more certain about the right color choices now. Compared a lot and its still hard to be sure. But I think I am going with the following:

Stripe,
Base, Mephiston red
Wash, Carroburg crimson
Dry, Wild rider red

Scales,
Base, Macragge Blue (--> spraying possible and color a little brighter than Kantor blue)
Wash, Coelia greenshade
Dry, Imrik Blue + Ehterium Blue

Belly:
Base, Templeguard Blue
Wash, Coelia Greenshade
Dry, Baharroth Blue

Another question came up

What kind of scheme would you go for with the Shields? It should match the red markings on the head and tails.

I initially liked the brown/yellow combo (see picture) but I dont think it goes well with the red spot color.

I did mine with black and yellow. That's what it suggests as well

If you wanted to keep the shields a ruddy brown, then perhaps a basecoat of Khorne Red (or Mephiston Red) then a dark Nuln Oil Wash to keep it more subdued than the red crest stripes on the saurus? Doombull Brown is also a nice reddish-brown base colour. Maybe a slight drybrush of the aforementioned reds/brown afterwards to lighten up the shields (depending on if you want more red on them, instead of a darker tone) Also, the picture of the shield with the yellow patterning looks like there is edge highlighting around the very edges of each scale with a lighter red (possibly Wild Rider Red?). For a yellow stripe/pattern, Averland Sunset would be your best bet for a base, with a wash of Seraphim Sepia (or Cassandora Yellow/Fuegan Orange/Agrax Earthshade depending on colour choice for shading) then a highlight of something like Yriel or Flash Gitz Yellow.

If perhaps the yellow pattern would be too much to combine with the red spot colour already on the models, then maybe a reddish-orange to link it back to the red would be better? (Jokaero Orange base, maybe even mixed together with other red paints, then a reddish wash of Carroburg Crimson or the other washes above, then a slight highlight of Troll Slayer Orange) If you don't have any of the Orange colours, then it's always good to experiment in creating your own with the paints that you have already available to you

(Apologies for the long blocks of text- hope these ideas help and get the creative juices flowing!) Luckily with the Lizardmen/Seraphon, you can use a variety of different colours on the models and not have it seem garish with all the choices.

I think I nailed it down to the 2 different paint schemes I have to decide from. (see pictures)

Red markings with Black/white(bone) shields
Yellow markings with brown/yellow shields

Hmmm... tough decision

maybe Ill paint the ones with shield in yellow and the others with red markings

It's up to you, although I think it would look a little strange to have the colours from two separate Constellations in the same army. Personally I would just stick with the one. You could still spice it up by changing the markings between units, but you'd have a more coherent looking army. But these are your forces. The yellow and the red might look quite good. Like I said, it's down to what you want.

If cohesion is a concern (though it really doesn't have to be!), maybe you could, say, paint warriors in one of the two color schemes and knights in the other. That way each unit type looks like it should be together, but stands out from different units. Could tie it to some lore too, like one constellation specializing in cavalry so that's why those are your knights. That's just an example though, I'm fairly new to AoS so I'm not exactly an authority on lore.
